Sheffield Towne Association: What Are We Getting for Our Money?

Sheffield Towne homeowners in Schaumburg deserve a clear explanation of the ~$3,770 we’re paying and the services that money covers.

My office overlooks the property manager’s office and the barn parking lot. I frequently see vehicles sitting there for extended periods. When I walk or bike through the community, I often do not see work being performed during those visits.

That raises a reasonable question: What work is being completed, and how does the board verify that we’re receiving good value?

I also requested association documents, but my request to have them sent was refused. Why? If records must be inspected or requested through a different process, please explain that process.

I’m asking the Board of Directors to:

- Explain the ~$3,770 expense, including the services and time period it covers.
- Provide access to relevant contracts, invoices, and available records of completed work.
- Explain the reason for refusing my request and identify the basis for withholding any records.

Our hard-earned dues deserve careful oversight, documented results, and clear answers.

Board members: Please address these concerns openly. Neighbors: What questions would you like answered about association spending and maintenance?

How does the Board of Directors select contractors, and what role does property manager Roy Porter play in those decisions?

I would like the board to address these questions:

- Are competing bids obtained? If not, why?
- Do any contractors have personal relationships with Roy Porter? If so, how are those relationships disclosed and reviewed?
- How does the board evaluate workmanship, reliability, and total costs—including additional charges?
- Who reviews and approves contracts before association funds are committed?

Our dues pay for this work. Homeowners deserve to know that contractor decisions are supported by due diligence, fair comparisons, and clear board oversight.

I’m asking the board to explain its hiring process and share the bid comparisons and selection criteria behind recent contracts.

**Are we receiving the best value and performance for our money?
Please provide the information homeowners need to assess that.**

Why aren’t Sheffield Towne Association’s outdoor cameras available for public viewing? There appears to be no clear reason to prevent residents from accessing them.

Is access being restricted because the cameras are not functioning as effectively as they should? Residents also deserve an explanation for why so many trucks are regularly parked at the STA office.

If all of these employees and vehicles are necessary, why do they appear to spend so much time sitting idle at the office rather than being used throughout the community? Greater transparency regarding the cameras, staffing, and use of association resources is warranted.

📍 Filing a Small Claims Case in Schaumburg, IL

If you are filing a small claims case in Schaumburg, Illinois, your case will be filed through the Third Municipal District of Cook County.
