CBDCE administers the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) and the Board-Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM®) credential programs. Formed in 1986, CBDCE is a non-profit certification board that promotes the interests of diabetes educators and the public at large by granting certification to qualified health professionals (RDNs, RNs, PharmD, PAs, NPs, MDs, and oth

ers) involved in the care and education of persons with diabetes through the establishment of eligibility requirements and the development of a written examination. The Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) credential has become a standard of excellence and a sought-after certification in the diabetes community.

"Becoming a CDCES has been a goal of mine since I began working at the Helen O. Dickens Center for Women’s Health. Our founder, Dr. Helen O. Dickens, has always been an inspirational figure—but it is her unwavering commitment to delivering the highest quality care to everyone, regardless of their means, that truly motivated me to pursue the CDCES certification.

My path to becoming a CDCES was anything but linear. After several years coaching college field hockey, I returned to school to earn a post-baccalaureate degree in nutrition and completed my dietetic internship. I then gained experience working in WIC and long-term care before returning to the Dickens Center, where I now support pregnant patients and work closely with those in the Perinatal Diabetes Program.

I am incredibly grateful to the CDCES Scholarship Program for expanding access to certification and helping make this milestone possible."

Last Chance to Apply for CBDCE Leadership! Deadline: June 1, 2026.

Join our team and help us shape the future together. For the 2026 election, with a term of service starting January 1, 2027, for those elected, we're looking to fill the following CDCES seats:

One (1) "other" position and one (1) open position.

The “other” professional category includes any discipline other than registered nurse, registered dietitian/dietitian nutritionist, pharmacist, or provider (MD, DO, PA, NP). The open position can be a CDCES from any discipline. Individuals elected will serve a four-year term. All applicants for the seats must be diabetes care and education specialists holding active CDCES certification with CBDCE.
