The Friendship Stone is a 17-ton sandstone gift to the Village of Schaumburg, IL, from its sister city, Schaumburg, Germany. The stone was donated to commemorate the Illinois Village's 60th anniversary in 2016 and bears the coats of arms of the two Schaumburgs and the inscription "Common Heritage - Common Future".

The Friendship Stone has been relocated from the Renaissance Center to the construction site of the new Schaumburg Village Hall. The stone will be prominently displayed at the top of the stairwell.

Back in October 2018, Schaumburg Sister Cities had the pleasure of hosting the Ernestinum Bigband, founded in 2008 by Daniel Ellemann to give young musicians opportunities for intercultural and music exchange.

A group of 34 participants spent 10 days performing concerts and visiting sites in Schaumburg, IL. On October 12, 2018, the Fremd High School Wind Symphony joined the Bigband for a memorable program featuring pop, musical theatre and jazz selections.

Harvest Festival Niedernwöhren 2025

Harvest Festival, or Erntefest, is recognized all over Germany to celebrate the annual harvest by farmers. The events are community celebrations that include large wagon parades, live music and traditional dance and dress.

Niedernwöhren is one of the municipalities in the Schaumburg District of Germany. They celebrated the Harvest Festival in grand style with a 41 float parade and an eight-hour Schaumburg Traditional Costume Dance.

Another successful Schaumburg Septemberfest is in the books for the Schaumburg Sister Cities Commission! We were fortunate to have beautiful weather and a great turnout for Not-for-Profit Day. Thanks to the hard work of our commission members, we raised funds that will help launch a new high school scholarship - more details coming soon.

A special thank you to Commission Member Caren Chisesi for coordinating this year’s fundraising event with our generous partner, Kettle Kabin.

Happy Birthday, Anne Fox
September 14, 12 - 3 PM
at the 1870s One-Room Schoolhouse

Miss Anne Fox was the last teacher to teach at the Centre School on Schaumburg Road before it closed in 1956. Her teaching career spanned 46 years. She was beloved by students and staff and became a model for new teachers. She was so highly regarded that District 54 decided to name a school after her. Join us to celebrate Anne Fox and all teachers—past and present—at the Centre School,
222 E. Schaumburg Road.

During his 2024 visit, Mayor Tatsuo Mizuno of our Sister City, Namerikawa, Japan, had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at the Schaumburg Boomers game. Dressed for success in his new Chicago Cubs jersey, Mayor Mizuno put one right over the plate. He also enjoyed the opportunity to meet a few players. This outing was a memorable highlight of the trip.
