Sport continues to grow! Nice work Weatherford!
Weatherford High School's FFA shooting program started with a handful of students and a few clay targets. Three years later, the Eagles are taking aim at some of Oklahoma’s biggest competitions.
What started with around a dozen students in 2023 has developed into a Weatherford High School FFA shooting program with between 30 and 50 participants and a growing record of success.
Agricultural teacher and FFA chapter advisor Rhett Conkling helped start the program in 2023 during his first year teaching at Weatherford. He estimates 12 to 15 students initially showed interest. Today, that number has grown to about 30.
For Conkling, the growth has depended as much on the people behind the shooters as those pulling the trigger.
“This town really supports this program, and that’s what’s made it the way it is,” Conkling said. “So it’s been really good.”
