November SNAP benefits have been disrupted due to the government shutdown. Even before the shutdown, high housing costs, inflation, and hurricane recovery had caused the highest need ever seen in MANNA’s history. Yet, for every 1 meal MANNA provides, SNAP provides 9. Our food pantry partners are already seeing exponentially higher visit numbers, as tens of thousands more neighbors in need are turning to MANNA and our partners for help.
We also know that the holiday season, a time to gather, share food, and care for our neighbors, is approaching. But across Western North Carolina, more families than ever are struggling to put meals on the table.
MANNA is trying to raise $200,000 to purchase nutritious food for our neighbors during this SNAP crisis and through the holiday season. Every $50 fills a box of essential food for our neighbors, every 2,000 fills a pallet, and every $15,000 fills an entire box truck.
