Just an update: There's a Design Review Committee (DRC) meeting about the project on Wednesday, 9/1 5 pm. at The developer plans to change the number of stories for the apartments from three to five. Because of this change, the developer must present the changes to the DRC. The DRC doesn't have the authority to deny or approve the project; they focus on design standards, landscaping and project aesthetics. If the DRC accepts the proposed changes and has no recommendations, the next step is the planning commission.

We also learned from the meeting agenda that the project appears to be exempt from environmental review, since the developer has agreed to do a tribal consultation. To view the meeting agenda, go to city of ventura agenda center, design review committee.

Greetings all,
We met with Mayor Sanchez-Palacios on Monday. It was a great turn out! 13 of us were there, and 10 were Saticoy residents who voiced concerns about the gas station. The mayor followed up with us today with an update: The project is going back to Design Review Committee (DRC) on Sept. 2. The agenda isn't out yet, but we're guessing it's because the developer wants to add more apartment units. The DRC doesn't decide on the project, just on design standards. But for those who want to attend, we will post a reminder a few days prior, with info on the proposed changes.

More encouraging news...according to the mayor, city staff are still recommending NOT to approve the project when it goes to the planning commission (date to be determined).

Thank you for all your emails! Our efforts are making a difference.

đź‘‹ Hi all, The project is tentatively scheduled to be heard by the planning commission at the end of October. We'll let you know if that date changes.

We met with City Manager Bill Ayub today, and appreciate the time he took to listen to our concerns; we shared the information about Saticoy being near several earthquake faults and it being in a liquefaction zone due to loose soils. As city manager, he can not personally stop the project, but it helps our cause that he's aware of the many reasons why this project is not a good fit for Saticoy.

Hi everyone,
Just an update: We'll be meeting with the City Manager, Bill Ayub, on July 9th. We're feeling optimistic about this meeting, since it took a few attempts for him to respond.
One of members reached out to the city about a soil report for Saticoy. A soil report was done 18 years ago for another developer, and that report is still being used for this project. It turns out that Saticoy sits on a number of earthquake faults, and is considered a liquefaction zone. That means that in the event of a strong earthquake, the soil can take on properties of a liquid, and become like quicksand. We'll be sharing this info with the City Manager, and will post a summary of the meeting.

Happy 4th!
