Through CCNA and sanctioned by our City of Sarasota, Government , IBSSA has been collecting car speed info over this week. On Bay Shore Rd, in three days we have documented over 100 cars going over 40% faster than the speed limit!! (+10 mph over 25)(car speed only, no personal info)
Big thank you to our volunteers and can't wait to turn the data in!

Our neighborhood watch coordinator is reporting a spike in vehicle break-ins, mostly into unlocked cars, so be on alert, keep a lookout, and remember to lock your car doors!

We recieved an update from the City regarding the Jungle Garden's removal of the landscaping outside their fence.
The city has withdrawn most of the Codes complaint against Jungle Gardens; only the removal of the barbed wire is now being cited.

The city states:
"After doing additional research, staff came to the conclusion that per the original approving ordinance from 1969, Ordinance No. 1618, the landscape buffer requirements are not applicable to the Bay Shore Rd frontage as they apply only to interior property lines. Therefore, we will not be moving forward with that violation, only the violation for the barbed wire."

Bottom line, it appears that Jungle Gardens was within their rights.
The IBSSA Board continues to reach out to Jungle Gardens to see how we can be of help; the beautification of IBSS is a priority as well as a successful future for Jungle Gardens.
We also welcome the neighborhood's input on the matter, as always.

Some progress to report on the Indian Beach restoration. The city has posted public notice that FEMA has officially approved the project! I reached out to Parks and the city has submitted construction plans to FEMA and is waiting approval; they are hoping to begin repairs this fall and finish in early 2027. Yay!

On the August ballot, Amendment 3 will be up for a vote , to increase the homestead exemption on property taxes at the expense of city services.
