Happy birthday Mr. Leonard Reid (Aug. 24, 1881). Your house is a cultural cornerstone now.

We celebrate you - valedictorian of the Savannah Normal School class, Sarasota pioneer, Payne Chapel AME founder, community leader and founding member of Masonic Lodge #314.

Thanks for handing out books to neighborhood children at your house (we honor your legacy by doing same); educating your children and teaching them about community service. They educated generations of Newtown children.

Mrs. Ethel Reid Hayes and sister Viola, our nursery school teachers taught us the alphabets, how to count and stand in line for the restroom nicely.

A new exhibition is coming to the historic Reid House. What does it mean for Black people to feel good fully, unapologetically?

Black joy can be tender, self love, a source of peace, pride, an act of resistance, empowerment.

Submit artwork by September 18.
Exhibit runs from Nov. 4 - March 31.
