SRQ Strong Community heals community.

SRQ Strong brings people together through events that foster understanding, shared healing, and awareness around trauma — because when we heal together, our whole community grows stronger.

NET in Action: A Hurricane-Ready Newtown
When neighbors are connected, neighborhoods weather the storm—together. 💪
Thanks to NET member Angela Miles, SRQ Strong partnered with the American Red Cross's Community Adaptation Program—and since April, we've trained 130 Newtown residents to be Red Cross Ready for hurricane season. 🌀
Next up? NET members get trained to lead the training themselves—so the knowledge stays right here, spreading neighbor to neighbor. 🤝
We partner in blue skies, so when grey skies come, Newtown is ready. ☀️🌧️

Next up: Body & the Balance Sheet — a 90-minute community workshop where financial honesty meets collective clarity, and the money conversations we usually avoid become the ones that change us.

Last night's Banyan Conversation hit different. ✨

We practiced something simple but powerful: listening to truly hear another person's world through their story.

Here's the payoff, when we really hear someone, we can separate the person from the behavior, grow our empathy, and let go of judgment.

This week's challenge: 👁️ better eye contact, fewer questions. Less steering, more hearing.

Bonus experiment 👉 Ask someone about a time they were genuinely excited or something great happened to them. Then listen for everything around them — the people they love, the places that shaped them, the era they were born into. Does empathy still grow through stories of joy, not just hardship?

Try it. Find out.

Couldn't make it this time? The next is already on its way.

We're moving from the table to the dance floor. 💃🕺

Batons twirled. Batons passed. A new chapter begins!!!

Today marks a milestone in SRQ Strong's history: for the first time ever, we have THREE full-time team members dedicated to building stronger communities across Sarasota and Manatee counties.
Please welcome:
🌟 Hilary Espinosa — Executive Director
🌟 Abra Curry — Trauma-Informed Community Development Program Manager
🌟 And of course, Helen Neal, our Trauma & Healing Facilitator.

A heartfelt thank you to Betsy Friedman, our interim volunteer Executive Director, who is passing the baton and stepping into a new role as Chair of our Board's Finance Committee. Your leadership carried us here. Thank you!

This isn't just a staffing update, it's a turning point. With this team in place, we're ready to deepen our work building resilience, relationships, and opportunity in every neighborhood we serve.

The work ahead is big. We're ready!

Our Board members carry their own reasons for showing up to SRQ Strong — moments that shaped them, neighbors who needed them, hopes for what our community can become.

In their words, here's why this work lives so close to their hearts.

And on June 1st, we'll share the next chapter of what their dedication is helping to build.
