FOSTER SECURED!!! We will likely need help with her medical care, and a specialty diet for her, but we'll post more once she's gotten on transport!! Thank you all for your shares!!!!

We were contacted about a roughly 6-year-old female Rottweiler who is reportedly spayed and AKC registered. She has significant ear issues that reportedly need veterinary care.

We have been told that if someone does not take her, a family member is threatening to “take her out to the desert.”
So let’s be blunt:

WE CANNOT TAKE THIS DOG WITHOUT A COMMITTED FOSTER HOME.

Our rescue is completely full. Our homes are full. Our resources are stretched. We desperately need fosters for the dogs already in our care.

We cannot bring another dog into the rescue simply because her situation is urgent. Urgency does not create an available foster home.

If you are willing to foster her, we will support you. We will help with the transition, veterinary care, management, and resources we reasonably can.

But you need to understand what you may be signing up for.

Until proven otherwise:
• Assume she has had little to no training.
• Assume she is not safe with other animals.
• Assume she will need significant management around children.
• Assume she will need veterinary care for her ears.
• Assume we know very little about her history or temperament.
That does not mean she is a bad dog.

It means we are not going to gamble with her safety, anyone else's
by pretending we know more than we do.

She reportedly has a timeline.

If you genuinely have the ability to foster her safely, please SEND US A PM.

Our foster application is also available through the link in our bio.

And please understand: sharing this post is helpful, but it does not give this dog a foster home.

We don't need 100 people to tell us they wish they could help.

We need ONE committed person or family who actually can.

If that's you, PM us. Fill out the foster application. Let's get to work.

OR if you can foster/adopt one of our current long term residents, that opens up space for US to help this girl out..

Kela is coming back to rescue after a successful week of living with her foster family.

Sometimes a foster home teaches us just as much about what a dog needs as it does about who they are, and Kela’s stay has given us some really valuable information about this sweet girl.

Her foster family has been wonderful with her and has given her every opportunity to settle in. Kela has been incredibly sweet with their children, loves being close to her people, and has shown just how affectionate and loving she can be.

As we've come to know about her in her two months with us, this gal thrives with her furry buddies. A home with other dogs will be a requirement.

A moderately active home will suffice! She's not a go go go type of gal, contrary to her husky roots. A family who is able to get her out and about 3-4 times a week is sufficient.

🐾 Has done great with the foster’s children
🐾 Would benefit from someone patient with transitions and willing to give her time to settle into a new routine. She's had A LOT of change after being surrendered during Iron Fire and needs a patience family
🐾 Absolutely gorgeous, sweet, and very deserving of her person

Kela will be coming back to us, but we would LOVE for her stay to be short. She doesn’t need perfection, she needs someone willing to understand her, give her consistency, and let her figure out that she’s finally home.

Please share Kela. Her person may be one share away. 🩷

Agreed. There's not a single scenario where we wouldn't recommend crate training.

❤️ A QUICK NOTE FROM US

Ohana is growing, and we're incredibly excited about what comes next.

Over the next few months, we'll be transitioning from so much of the day-to-day work being handled by just Chase and Sam to training and building a dedicated team of volunteers who can help with applications, communication, adoptions, fostering, events, and all the moving pieces that keep a rescue running.

Our goal is to make the entire process more organized and seamless for our adopters, fosters, supporters, and, most importantly, the dogs.

While we grow, we ask for a little patience and grace.

Please remember that Ohana Rottweiler Rescue is 100% volunteer-run right down to the very last person.

There isn't a paid staff sitting behind a desk answering messages all day. We're people with jobs, families, kids, pets, responsibilities, and lives outside of rescue.

We answer applications between everything else, coordinate vet appointments and transports around work schedules, answer messages when we can, lose sleep over sick dogs, celebrate every adoption, and then we get up and do it all over again.

We do it because we love these dogs. 🐾❤️

As our volunteer team grows, so will our ability to respond faster, help more families, and ultimately save more dogs.

Thank you for supporting us, believing in what we're building, and giving us a little patience along the way.

🐾 YOU DON'T HAVE TO ADOPT TO SAVE A LIFE.

Foster. Donate. Volunteer. Share. Advocate.

Sometimes something as simple as sharing a post is what connects a dog with the person they've been waiting for.

Please SAVE & SHARE this post so our important information is always easy to find.

A happily ever after for Rottweilers & other working breed dogs.

Max has been in his foster home for about a week now, and this is what his foster mom had to say about him ❤️

His foster mom describes him as moderate energy, smart, obedient, and very people-oriented. He knows his commands, has nice manners with toys, and has settled into family life well.

“He coexists with our dogs well. He’s not a big player. I think he would thrive as an only dog or with a respectful dog who understands when he wants some space.”

His foster home also has kids, and Max has handled the everyday noise and chaos well. His foster mom feels respectful, dog-savvy kids 10+ would be a good fit.

One thing has become pretty clear during his past 6 months with us: Max is a buddy.

He wants to be where his people are and know what everyone is doing. He has a little FOMO, but when things get too exciting, he’s also showing that he can settle nicely in a quieter space.

Like a lot of smart shepherds, Max does best with clear rules, consistency, and continued training. Give him that, include him in your life, and we think you’re going to have one heck of a loyal sidekick. ❤️

Max is good with cats and his adoption fee is WAIVED!

Interested in Max? Apply to adopt. If he’s not your match, please share, his person might be one share away.

Quick Business Phone Update 📱

One of the dogs managed to knock our business phone right out of our hands and unfortunately, the phone did not survive the encounter. 😂

We’re working as quickly as possible to get it repaired, hopefully within the next 24 hours, without spending the $600+ it would take to replace it. That money needs to go toward the nearly $2,000 in care our current rescue dogs need, so we’re trying to be smart about where those dollars go.

Thankfully, our phone line is still accepting calls (hallelujah!), but the keypad is broken, so we’re limited in what we can do with the phone right now. We’re working hard to get back to everyone as quickly as possible.

Please be patient with us while we get this sorted out. We promise we’re not ignoring you! ❤️

And, if you happen to have an unlocked, working Samsung phone sitting around that you’d be willing to donate, we would LOVE to talk to you! 🙏

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we navigate yet another unexpected dog-related expense and hiccup

Camo is having the BEST time while boarding at Wasatch Canine Camp ❤️

She’s been incredibly social, absolutely LOVES people, and getting all the affection from the staff is definitely her favorite part of the day. 🥰

Her boarding bill is $270, and we haven’t been able to cover it yet. If you’d like to sponsor part or all of Camo’s stay, we would be incredibly grateful!

We are pretty emotional over here

OUR LONGEST FOSTERS HAVE FOUND FOSTERS!!!

This is something we’ve been working toward for months. Every one of these dogs is worth it, but each has come with their own challenges and needs, which made finding the right foster home so important. Seeing that finally happen feels HUGE. Kela is with an amazing foster who is confident with her being on the shy/skiddish side. Bayou is with an experienced foster who will be patient with him and his puppy brain he still hasn't grown out of yet, and MAX, our longest term resident is on a trial foster with a close family friend of ours who has experience working with sensitive dogs. We are ALL so appreciative of these foster families who have opened their homes to help these pups out.

We can do the hard physical work in caring for these dogs, but it's the community who helps us support them! ❤️

You all have donated an incredible $1,095, and we want you to know exactly what you've made possible:

🐾 Tux's neuter $165: COVERED!
🐾 Beans' surgery $600: COVERED!
🐾 6 bags of dog food: $325 — PURCHASED!

That's $1,090 of your donations already going directly toward the dogs. ❤️

Now we have just $300 left to cover our immediate needs:

🐾 Durango's neuter: $165
🐾 Camo's boarding: $135

We couldn't find Camo a foster family in time, so boarding was the only way we could make sure she had somewhere more calm to go while renovations are happening.

$300
After months of trying to find solutions for these dogs, seeing our longest fosters finally heading into foster homes feels almost unreal.

To everyone who donated, shared a post, offered a home, transported a dog, bought food, sent encouragement, or helped us keep going when things got hard: You did this with us! We're so incredibly grateful. Now let's get this last $300 covered and send these babies into their next chapters knowing everything they need is taken care of.

What does the average owner actually want in a dog?

From the messages we receive, we hear the same things over and over:
Good with other dogs, and kids. Calm and quiet. Able to settle. Up for adventures.
Comfortable going to new places. Easy to live with.

When you read between the lines, what people are really asking for is a dog who is resilient, confident, environmentally sound, and able to move through the world without becoming overwhelmed by it.

This is where I'd like to highlight the best boy, Zumi. This boy spent months at a local shelter being overlooked, and found an amazing foster family where he's been thriving despite all of the changes he's has. This is resiliency.

We get message after message describing the "good family dog" everyone is looking for, and then a dog like Zumi comes through our doors.

Zumi 2–4-year-old German Shepherd mix, and instead of asking you to take home a puppy and hope she grows into the dog you're looking for, Zumi gives you the opportunity to meet the dog already standing in front of you.

So if you've ever sent us a message saying you're looking for a dog who can be part of the family, live life with you, go places with you, settle when it's time to settle, and navigate the world without making everything a big deal...

You might want to come meet the dog you've been describing.

One of his only flaws? He thinks cats and small animals are dog food....I don't think we can blame him much on that though.

Zumi | German Shepherd mix | Approximately 2–4 years old
