Today is World Environment Day.

For animals, the environment is not an idea. It is home.

It is the forest where a mother raises her young. The ocean where a whale migrates. The wetland where birds nest. The desert where wildlife searches for water. Every habitat holds lives worth protecting.

When we protect the planet, we protect animals from hunger, displacement, pollution, and extinction.

Today, choose one action:
Pick up plastic.
Plant native flowers.
Use less single-use waste.
Support habitat protection.
Speak up for wildlife.

Every choice matters because every animal matters.

What is one thing you will do today for the planet and the animals who call it home? Tell us in the comments.

This is cruel. It is reckless. It should outrage every person who cares about animals, public lands, and basic decency.

The Trump administration has opened the door to bringing back M-44s, commonly called “cyanide bombs,” on public lands.

These devices are baited traps. When an animal bites or pulls on them, they eject sodium cyanide. The targets are usually coyotes, foxes, and other predators. But poison does not understand intention.

It kills wildlife.
It kills beloved dogs.
It endangers people.
It turns public land into a hidden hazard.

Coyotes and other wild animals do not deserve death by poison for living where they have always lived. Families should not have to fear hidden cyanide devices while hiking, camping, or walking their dogs.

Public lands should protect life. They should not hide poison traps.

This should outrage every person who believes animals deserve a place to live.

Hundreds of bison in Montana are at risk of being pushed off the prairie they call home. According to The New York Times, the Trump administration wants to remove these bison from federal grasslands and replace them with cattle.

Bison are not props in a political fight. They are living beings. They are native to this land. They are part of America’s natural heritage, and they were driven to near extinction once before.

We should be restoring bison to the prairie, not forcing them off it.

Public lands should serve the public good. That includes wildlife, ecosystems, Indigenous cultural connections, and future generations who deserve to inherit more than empty grassland.

This is a moment worth celebrating.

A rare male jaguar named Cinco was filmed drinking from a watering hole in southern Arizona. According to National Geographic, he is only the fifth jaguar documented in the region in the past 15 years.

His presence offers something powerful. Hope.

Jaguars once roamed the Southwest. Hunting, habitat loss, and shrinking wild corridors pushed them away. But Cinco’s quiet return reminds us what becomes possible when wild places remain connected, protected, and respected.

Every trail camera image matters. Every protected corridor matters. Every animal who finds a path home matters.

Dog rescue is love in action.

It is the first night with a scared foster.
The vet visits.
The hard goodbyes.
The dogs who heal you while you try to heal them.

WUNC/NPR’s feature on Isabel Klee’s new memoir celebrates the real, raw, life-changing work behind dog rescue. Isabel has fostered 35 dogs, built a community of more than 1 million followers, and used her platform to show what fostering really takes.

The joy. The grief. The patience. The second chances.

Every foster home saves lives. Every adopter changes a future. Every person who shares a rescue story helps another dog get seen.

This is what rescue looks like when people refuse to look away.

The New York Post spotlighted Run 2 The Rescue, a Long Island nonprofit saving dogs from China’s dog meat trade and helping them find safe, loving homes in the U.S.

They have rescued roughly 600 dogs. Nearly 300 have already been adopted. Many arrived injured, sick, terrified, or unwanted by breeders. Now they are getting names, beds, families, medical care, and the second chance they always deserved.

Every dog saved proves a simple truth: cruelty is not culture. Rescue is possible.

A life-saving offer is on the table for Colombia’s hippos.

Instead of death, these animals have a chance at transport, veterinary care, and a permanent home.

This is what compassionate solutions look like. Complex problems still deserve humane answers.

98%.

That is how much of Big Meat and Big Dairy’s recent “sustainability” messaging researchers found to be misleading.

Not a few bad claims.
Not a handful of sloppy ads.
Nearly the whole playbook.

A new study covered by TIME analyzed 1,233 environmental claims from 33 of the world’s largest meat and dairy companies. The researchers found 98% amounted to greenwashing. TIME’s summary says these companies made climate promises and sustainability claims that often lacked evidence, clear plans, or meaningful accountability.

This is what outrage should look like:

Animals suffer.
Communities absorb pollution.
Consumers get misled.
The planet pays the price.
Corporations sell “sustainability.”

Factory farming cannot be rebranded into compassion.

A cage is still a cage.
A slaughterhouse is still a slaughterhouse.
A methane-heavy industry does not become climate-friendly because marketing teams found softer language.

They suffered for weight-loss drugs.

Not for survival.
Not because there was no other choice.
For an industry built on profit, pressure, and promises.

The article reports disturbing images from UK laboratories where monkeys were force-fed during tests tied to weight-loss drugs, prompting outrage from animal advocates and renewed criticism of animal testing practices.

These monkeys are not tools.
They are not disposable bodies.
They are not hidden costs in someone else’s business model.

They feel fear.
They feel pain.
They fight to escape suffering.

And the public deserves to know what happens behind the glossy marketing of “miracle” drugs.

No animal should be tortured so corporations can chase the next billion-dollar market.

Key facts: Ridglan Farms in Wisconsin bred beagles for research. Animal welfare advocates have fought for years to shut it down. Recent reporting says 1,500 beagles are being transferred to rescue groups, while questions remain about hundreds more still at the facility.

For years, beagles at Ridglan Farms were born into cages, bred for research, and denied the lives every dog deserves.

Now, the walls are finally starting to crack.

After relentless pressure from animal advocates, 1,500 beagles are being moved out of Ridglan Farms and into rescue networks where they can begin the long road toward safety, healing, and homes.

But this is not a full victory yet.

Hundreds of dogs may still be left behind.

These beagles are not lab supplies.
They are not inventory.
They are not products for experiments.

They are dogs.

They deserve grass under their paws, sunlight on their faces, soft beds, gentle hands, and names spoken with love.

This fight shows what happens when people refuse to look away.

Read the article. Share it. Keep the pressure on until every beagle is free.
