What a weekend at Pride In Dallas! 🏳️‍🌈

GAP’s HIV Pop-Up connected with 75+ people, sharing information about HIV prevention, testing, and treatment and helping connect our community to testing and care through our partners.

A HUGE thank you to Sister Olinka Green and Brother Eric “ESolid” Brown for facilitating, and to all our amazing GAP volunteers. We couldn’t have done it without you!

Special thanks to UTSW Community Prevention & Intervention Unit for providing female condoms, l**e, and prevention materials for our goodie bags, and to A New Way of Life Reentry Project for supporting this important outreach.

Texas, are we paying attention? 👀

Maine is showing us what corrections can look like when the goal isn't simply to punish people—but to prepare them to come home.

At Maine State Prison, the philosophy is built around human dignity, accountability, education, rehabilitation, and reentry. They even refer to incarcerated people as residents—because they recognize that incarceration is a temporary status, not a person's entire identity.

And here's the part TDCJ should be studying:

Most people in prison are coming home.

So who do we want returning to our communities—someone who spent years simply surviving prison, or someone who had opportunities to heal, learn, develop skills, take accountability, and build a real plan for what comes next?

Being humane isn't being soft on crime.

Rehabilitation IS public safety.
Successful reentry IS public safety.
People coming home prepared to stay home IS public safety.

Maine is giving us something worth studying.

Texas Department of Criminal Justice, are we paying attention?

For almost three decades, 2010 CNN Hero Susan Burton and her nonprofit, A New Way of Life, have helped women rebuild their lives after prison. Now, she also provides a way for formerly incarcerated women to replicate her model.
