For almost three decades, 2010 CNN Hero Susan Burton and her nonprofit, A New Way of Life, have helped women rebuild their lives after prison. Now, she also provides a way for formerly incarcerated women to replicate her model.

WELCOME HOME

Six years ago today, I walked out of prison determined that my past would not define my future.

Today, on the anniversary of my release, we open the doors to Pearl's Place.

What once felt impossible has become a place of hope for women returning home after incarceration.

Pearl's Place stands as a reminder that healing is possible, dignity matters, and fresh starts change lives.

To everyone who has encouraged, prayed, volunteered, donated, partnered, and believed in this vision—thank you.

This home belongs to our entire community.

Today, we celebrate not only my freedom, but the future of every woman who will walk through these doors.

More Than a Bed

A bed provides rest.

A home provides hope.

At Pearl's Place, residents will receive workforce development, peer support, financial coaching, digital literacy, life-skills training, and a community committed to their success.

We also equip women with tools for long-term growth through SMART goal planning—helping them set clear, achievable goals—and opportunities for civic engagement, empowering them to use their voices, participate in their communities, and become advocates for change.
