Project Purr

Project Purr Since 1987, Project Purr, a grassroots all-volunteer nonprofit, funds a FREE feral cat altering program for all Santa Cruz County, California residents.

www.projectpurr.org Santa Cruz County FREE feral cat spay/neuter program; trap-neuter-return; cat/kitten adoptions; focus is on reducing euthanasia of cats in the shelter and enhancing community health through trap-neuter-return programs and access to low-cost feral cat spay/neuter program and education and advocacy in the community. Project Purr believes:

ve. Trap-Neuter-Return is the most compassionate, and the only humane and effective way to reduce the population of feral cats. Spay/neuter is the single most important thing we all can do to help the animals. There are not enough homes for all the animals in Santa Cruz County - and you can never stem the tide of homeless animals if you ignore the least understood and in the greatest danger - feral cats and kittens!

In fond memory of Molly, who helped our local Santa Cruz wildlife for over 22 years at Native Animal Rescue.
In this tribute video she exonerates feral cats from bird predation but not domestic/social cats.
March is baby bird season!
And it’s critical that domestic pet cats be contained early mornings and early evenings when birds must feed… sometimes on lower and riskier blossoms… to revive after sleeping and to survive the next night.
We love our cats and we love our birds too!

No - she does not want to be pregnant
No - she does not want to take care of her babies in the wild
No - she does not want to see her babies die from illnesses and being run over by cars
No - she does not want to be trapped and taken to Animal Control

All she wants is to be fixed, vaccinated and returned to the outdoors. That's where her home is. That's where she is happiest.

Please fix the cats you feed. You love them enough to feed them. Please love them enough to fix them.

Working with our friends at Project Bay Cat yielded such a happy barn cat relocation. Bravo!

Working with our friends at Project Bay Cat yielded such a happy barn cat relocation. Bravo!

The two acclimation hutches that Project Purr lent me worked out GREAT at the equestrian center. Our scardey-cat, Bashful, can be seen with her friend Lonely, the horse.
I couldn't have asked for a better outcome at this barn for the 4 cats that I relocated there.

We know that cat colony caregiving can require a lot of time, money, and energy.

So when resources are limited, you may wonder what to tackle first: finding homes for kittens (a quick way to reduce colony populations), or making sure adult cats in the colony are spayed or neutered (a longer-term strategy).

👉 The answer: If you can’t do both at once, always fix adults first! Unfixed adults can continue the cycle of new litters while you’re busy placing kittens, so put an end to the cycle —then start placements.

Thank you 10 Lives TNVR!

This weeks 5 spay/neuter kitties.

This location is next door to one we recently did 20 cats for. They felt we were finished there and they were so happy that ALL of the cats were now fixed. What they didn't know is next door, behind a fenced and gated yard, MORE kitties were going to produce a new population explosion to chase down. Thankfully, the neighbors reached out to Project Purr and PP reached out to us.

Unfortunately, one of the kitties here had a serious and very painful condition and had to be relieved from his suffering. We never get used to these heartbreaking situations.

Thank you SNIP Bus-Spay Neuter Imperative Project. It was worth driving to Greenfield.
