MTNS2SEA is a youth empowerment program that uses outdoor adventure learning to help youth achieve their personal potential.

MTNS2SEA gets youth outside with weekly outdoor adventure learning opportunities in the mountains and on the sea. With each outing, there is a focus on leadership skills, team building, goal setting, and personal reflection. MTNS2SEA operates during the school year and outings consist of hiking, sailing, working with community partners on environmental stewardship projects, surfing, trail maintena

nce, local environmental historical site visits, and overnight backpacking. While we are adventuring students have the opportunity to build relationships with staff and other students while focusing on communication, personal responsibility, and leadership qualities. Throughout a day outside walking, climbing, swimming, sailing, or paddling, the youth of MTNS2SEA are participating in activities to promote self-growth, taking time for personal reflection, and serving the community. Being outside is at the heart of what we do and nature provides the catalyst for change and empowerment.

The last few weeks MTNS2SEA students have experienced the redwoods, the climbing gym, and the oak chaparral forest with lessons around communication, letting go, trust, and gratitude. We believe that getting outside, being active, and surrounding yourself with positivity, is the formula for a successful journey. Now get outside!!!!⛰️🌊☀️❤️

MTNS2SEA IS OFF AND RUNNING!!! Happy to announce we have our first new field guide, everyone, meet Andie Mills, an exceptional human and youth mentor! We are so lucky to have her! We hope you all find some time to get outside this weekend and enjoy the AHHHhh that is Nature!!

Many of the youth we serve have experienced what it feels like to trust someone and then have that trust broken. Research done in this area tells us that developmental relationships (close connections with trusted adults) are essential to help young people discover how to become their best selves. MTNS2SEA creates experiences that challenge youth to grow and expand their thinking of what is possible, build self-confidence and self-worth, and connect them to their community.

One way we do this is with our partners at Pacific Edge Climbing Gym. While this is an indoor gym, climbing is a wonderful adventure activity that helps us literally and metaphorically practice trust.

Trust themselves to try something new and take a healthy risk.

Trust the equipment to do what it is designed to do.

Trust each other to be supportive and encouraging.

And maybe most importantly, trust new adults (MTNS2SEA leaders) to hold the rope so that when they fall, we can show them, ‘We got you!

This giving Tuesday support the lasting impact of Mountains 2 Sea. Crystal participated in 2021 and here is what she is up to now and the lasting impact the program has had on her life.

October 2023 - I work at Hearts and Hands post acute rehab in Santa Cruz and I'm in a nursing program at Central Coast College.

The most helpful thing I learned from the program was what a safe space looks like. MTNS2SEA was like a second family to me. It really helped me come out of my shell and be more social, which really helped me with the career I chose. Thank you!

Summer is flying by! We hope everyone is finding time to get outside and adventure.

We have had some fun hikes with students looking for activity, gifted bikes to those that need wheels, and captured a few things in the wild filled with beauty!

Thank you for the ongoing support for kids without wheels! 🙏🏼❤️👈🏽

Support in a youths life has lots of meanings. What does that look like? 🤔
Cloths, food, shelter, love, encouragement, etc.
The climbing gym is a great place to discuss trust. Trust your harness, trust your belayer, trust the rope, and most importantly trust yourself!

The last few weeks have taken the students to the open ocean, to the microscope lab, to the redwoods, and to the climbing gym.
Set intentions, adventure, reflect, and set a goal. This is the formula for self growth the MTNS2SEA doesn’t stray from. 💪🏽 🧠 💪🏽❤️
