I was honored to serve on the Groundwater Sustainability Advisory Committee from 2020 to 2021, where I had the opportunity to contribute to the development of our region's Groundwater Sustainability Plan. This experience provided me with a deep understanding of the complexities of water management and the importance of long-term strategies to protect our vital groundwater resources. Through collaboration with community stakeholders, water experts, and policymakers, I helped ensure that the plan reflected a balanced approach, prioritizing both environmental sustainability and the needs of our residents. This role allowed me to witness firsthand the significance of sound water management policies in maintaining our region’s resilience in the face of climate change.
Building on this experience, I am committed to advancing solutions that safeguard our water supply for future generations while promoting responsible growth. As a member of the Santa Clarita Water Board, I will prioritize transparency, community engagement, and sustainable practices in all aspects of water management. My goal is to build upon the work we initiated during the creation of the Groundwater Sustainability Plan by ensuring its implementation is both equitable and effective. I will continue to advocate for policies that protect our water resources, support conservation efforts, and address the unique challenges faced by our region in a changing climate.
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), a landmark law that is driving reductions in the overuse of groundwater, protecting drinking water supplies, and making communities, agriculture and ecosystems more resilient to the impacts of climate change.
