Santa Clara Plays Fair

Santa Clara Plays Fair Santa Clara Plays Fair formed to defeat the use of public money for a professional sports stadium and continues its mission to protect taxpayer resources.

Santa Clara Plays Fair (SCPF) continues its mission as the City persists in offloading our shared resources to a pro sports franchise. We advocate for:
1) No loss of use of public facilities including our parks, our Youth Soccer Park, our open space, and our bike trail.
2) No general fund (tax) money spent on the stadium, including:
• City staff salaries.
• Outside consultants.
• Public safety.

Litigation and legal fees.
• Stadium operations and maintenance
• Stadium debt

Through its efforts SCPF members have mobilized to quash City handouts and support independent candidates for elected office. SCPF also plays an important local role by being the sole credible news source on issues affecting the City and School District. If you care about the City's and District's:
• Smart use of public resources for the public good
• Visible processes for public policy decision-making
• Fact-based choices for our kids and community

Check out this must-read editorial from one of the founders of Santa Clara Plays Fair on the REAL history behind Lisa Gillmor’s stadium deal.

Not only did Gillmor sign off on this awful agreement in 2011, but she and her council colleagues also went as far as suing residents who gathered enough signatures to demand a VOTE on that terrible deal.

Fortunately, Santa Clara’s current city council majority has stepped up, renegotiating to secure far better terms and saving our city from the financial fallout of Gillmor’s disastrous decisions.

This is informational. As an elected official I can post something but according to California's Brown Act I cannot respond or comment on it. Yes some people know this and will exploit it by calling me names or accusing me nefarious things. Oh well. Maybe this is one of the reasons good people don't want to be elected officials

Yes on Measure B for an appointed police chief, and Yes on Measure A for an appointed city clerk. When only 1 person runs unopposed the majority of the time (6 out of the last 9 elections for police chief, and 6 out of the last 10 elections for city clerk), that's not a real vote. The decision of who will be put before the voters has been made months before the election. See the Silicon Valley Voice Point-Counterpoint on Measure B.

Members of the Yes on Measure B and No on Measure B campaigns explain their stances on the issue of elected vs. appointed police chief.
