As we come to the end of Genesis, we can marvel at what God has revealed in this book of beginnings.
The God who formed the earth, walked with Abraham and sustained Joseph is the same God who walks with you.

What do you think is the most significant lesson you learned and applied from your BSF study of Genesis this year? Why is it significant?

God’s faithfulness is like the air we breathe. We cannot see the air, but it fills our lungs every time we take a breath. God, like air, can be counted on to be there. We can trust Him to keep all of His promises.

God knows and loves each of His own. He will do all He has promised: care for and make strong; forgive and make new; protect and purify. From the beginning, He has had a plan to restore the world that sin broke, and God is faithful to His own plan. We know God is faithful because He sent His Son to the cross to keep His promise. Now nothing can separate God’s people from His love. He is faithful to Himself and His Word. We can trust Him to keep all of His promises.

We approach life with limited understanding and a personal grid that distorts reality. God sees eternity and always seeks the highest good. He upholds His perfect character in everything He allows and accomplishes.

Are you facing something you cannot unravel or understand? Has God surprised you by accomplishing His will in a way you did not see coming? How will you trust God to do what only He can do as He determines best? The Lord, who is your Shepherd, will always be faithful every day of your life.

Even with an awareness of God’s deeper work, forgiving others remains challenging. To forgive, you must abandon any sense of revenge. Sometimes you must choose a heart of forgiveness, even when full restoration of a broken relationship is not possible.

You can forgive others because God has forgiven you, through Jesus. Healthy relationships require forgiveness. How willing are you to forgive those who do not deserve it? Do you withhold forgiveness or offer it generously? Who do you need to forgive?

God has always been love. Before He created the world the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit loved one another. God’s love never fails. God loves the world. He showed His love by sending His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, as Savior. When we receive His Son as our Savior, we can love God.

We read in Genesis 43-44, that as God melted the resistance of Jacob’s sons, He was demonstrating His love.

God’s love permeated their difficult experiences. God’s love propelled His well-timed plan that led them to face their sin. God’s love is at work, even in our deepest trials. God’s love is actively good. God’s love is a purifying love, reflecting the absolute purity of God Himself.

God is good. This simple, repeatable statement carries more infinite weight than we realize. What does it mean that God is good? What defines good, ultimately? All God is and everything He does is always good. God’s goodness is not a passive character trait but is actively at work in His people, His plan and His world. He orchestrates everything to most fully reveal His glory and fulfill His eternal plan. This is the truest definition of what is good.

Do you hold grudges? Joseph could have been bitter about how he got to Egypt and all he had been through at the hands of his family. But he was not. He moved on and trusted God … He recognized that God must do the work in their hearts, and he helped them, as God directed.

Processing hurt in a healthy manner requires God-given wisdom and the power of the Holy Spirit. Can you trust God to do the work only He can do in your life and the lives of others?

Suffering entrusted to God’s higher purpose is not wasted. God can be trusted. The presence of God graciously carries believers through even the longest and most painful suffering in life.

Isaiah 41:10 says: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Romans 5:3-5 says: “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
