Google November 2023 update now done rolling out

This update will be the last time Google has confirmed a reviews update.

Google confirmed that the November 2023 reviews update is now complete. This update, announced on November 8, 2023, rolled out over a 29-day period.

No more announcements. This will be the last time Google will confirm an update to the reviews system/algorithm. “We’ll no longer be giving periodic notifications of improvements to our reviews system,” the company said. A total of 8 reviews updates have been confirmed by Google since the first reviews update launched in April 2021.

What is new. Although Google won’t confirm updates going forward, updates are happening at a “regular and ongoing pace,” according to the company. That makes it sound like the reviews update is now a more real-time update. So changes to your rankings, for better or worse, may be reflected with this reviews system in more real-time than in batches.

Google: Search Generative Experience May Link To Paywalled Content But Here Is How To Block SGE

Google has updated its paywalled content search developer documentation to explain that Google Search Generative Experience may link to content behind a paywall. Google wrote, "SGE overviews may include links to paywalled content as a way for people to discover those pages."

Google also described in the updated Robots meta tags document how to use the Robots meta tag, data-nosnippet, and X-Robots-Tag specifications page for the nosnippet and max-snippet rules for SGE.

The first part of this information comes from a new section added to that document named Generative AI in Search considerations. It says, "SGE (Search Generative Experience) overviews are generated with the help of AI. They are supported by info from across the web and Google's Knowledge Graph, a collection of info about people, places, and things. Content blocked using snippet controls will not be shown in overviews."

Analysis: FAQ rich results show on 17% of Google SERPs, down from 54%

FAQs rich results mostly only show for well-known, authoritative websites – but it's still possible to earn them.

The number of FAQ rich results appearing in Google’s SERPs has decreased from 53.94% to 17.04%, according to a new analysis by digital marketing agency Portent.

About the analysis. It compared an Aug. 15 crawl of more than 30,000 Google searches, with 10 links per result, against the crawl from February (Portent didn’t give an exact date). It focused on “seed keywords from various verticals with a high likelihood of FAQs” including home improvement, mortgage, telehealth, cybersecurity, pet adoption and hiking.
