San Pablo Reservoir - Postponed - Saturday, May 16 - Postponed

This paddle is postponed due to windy forecast. Rescheduled to Saturday, 5/23.

We will paddle up the creek as far as we can go.(I paddled there a couple of weeks ago and was able to go further than I ever have before) then turn around and head back to the put-in for lunch. If you want more of a paddle you could head toward the dam after lunch. I will check on the weather a few days ahead of the 16th and verify the paddle is on. Let me know if you are coming so I can watch for you. Hope to see you there, John 510-381-1868

April 18, 2026 Point Richmond Harbor area
This was an unusually lovely day on the edge of the bay. The temperature was just right, there was just enough sun and most importantly the wind was under 5 mph. Barely any waves at all. You don't get it that good very often. It was a small group, Marilyn, Miguel, Andy and myself, all in kayaks. We started from Boat Ramp Steet at the end of Harbor Channel and enjoyed looking at the maritime/industrial scene. We paddled to the World War II era Red Oak Victory ship museum and met a group of paddlers from BASK. Then we paddled across the marina entrance to Vincent Park for lunch. We returned the same way. Really enjoyable.
I was a bit disappointed that more club members didn't come out for this fun, easy paddle. We will have more coming up soon - hope to see you then. - Dave Fitzgerald

Next Trip Scheduled:
Saturday, April 18 Point Richmond - Boat Launch Street
arrive by 10:00 - otw: 10:30

Weather dependent - I will confirm this paddle the week before. This area can be windy but the harbor itself is protected.

This is a tour of the historic Point Richmond Harbor area. Lots of interesting things to see including the Red Oak Victory Ship (World War II), Rosie the Riveter Museum, usually lots of interesting boats, etc. Hopefully we will have lunch at Vincent Park. We will probably paddle around 6 to 7 miles. This is an easy paddle suitable for any canoe or kayak.

Address: 700 West Cutting Blvd., Richmond - between Canal Blvd and S. 2nd St.
This is a little old ramp. No bathroom. Parking mostly on Cutting Blvd.

3/18/26 scheduled San Pablo Reservoir - actual Lafayette Reservoir
Arrived at the reservoir to discover that they are closed Monday Tuesday and Wednesday due to financial issues. Bummer We regrouped and ended up paddling at Lafayette Reservoir nearby. We had six paddlers. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed good conversion during lunch after the paddle.
Maybe the third time I'll get it right?

Coming Up: Paddle San Pablo Reservoir March 18, 2026
Weather permitting, we will be paddling San Pablo Reservoir on Wednesday March 18th. Meet at 10:00am on the water by 10:30. We will be paddling up the creek as far as we can go, turn around, and if we want to paddle more we can head toward the Dam. You might want to get there earlier than 10:00. I believe they are going to do a much more thorough boat inspection now, since they were closed to boat launching all of last year. Make sure your boat, jacket and paddles are bone dry. Entry fee is $7, car-top launch fee is $4, and boat inspection is $10. I will confirm the paddle a few days ahead of the date, and if we need to cancel I will reschedule another trip soon.
Hope to see many of you there. This is a great paddle, and I missed it last year.

Today was our first paddle of 2026 - Gallinas Creek in San Rafael. It was a very nice day for it, It was mostly overcast but a nice temperature (low 60's) and pretty much no wind. We had 6 paddlers, 2 canoes and 3 kayaks, 8 people in total. We had a nice ride on the tidal current up Gallinas Creek with plenty of water to circle Santa Margareta Island. We had to duck pretty low to get under the island's bridge. Then we had the beginning of the flow current to carry us back down to the launch spot. It was all very relaxed and easy paddling. After packing up we shared lunch at the one picnic table.

We had old timers Carol Tietelman, Stephen, Jessica and Coyote and me and my grandson Chris. We were joined by Micheline who I had paddled with a couple of times before and Ted Watrous from Santa Rosa on his first club trip.

A nice day on the water and great to get our club paddling season started. On Wednesday, March 18 John and Ann will be leading a paddle on San Pablo Reservoir near Orinda. This is a wonderful paddle - we usually are able to travel up a creek in a beautiful forest. Hope to see some of you there. for info: John is at [email protected]

I am hoping to schedule an April paddle soon and thinking about locations - the Napa River, the Oakland Estero and the Sacramento Delta are some ideas but I am very open to suggestions. Also I want to encourage other club members to initiate paddles. Let me know!

Lake Solano Trip Report 12/3/25
John Berry

What a Great day. Wind wasn't an issue at all for us. Gusty at times, but we were going straight into it heading up stream so it was easy to navigate our canoes. Mostly sunny and quite warm. Had to keep peeling off layers. We saw lots of different birds on the water. We went up the left fork in the creek as far as we could, then made a U turn at the fork coming out and went up the right fork as far as we could. Flew downstream with the wind and current and had a good lunch at the picnic area. David Fitzgerald and his son Andy were the only ones to join Ann and I but we had a great time. From now on I will give much more notice before a paddle and pay more attention to the wind.

8/22 - 8/29/2025 Kid Lake Campout
Had a great time at the annual club campout. Ok, it rained more than we'd ever seen it, but that was not until Monday when almost everyone had left. We had plenty of campers and everyone enjoyed it, even the few of who went through the rainy part.
