This Labor Day we celebrate and remember the labor wins of those who paved the way.
The federal holiday we enjoy today came out of the Pullman Railroad Car Company Strike of 1894, when about 30 people were killed in Chicago. Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday that same year.

You may not know that many of the workplace protections we assume are “just how it works” were fought for and won with the help of organized labor. The 8-hour day, the weekend, a minimum wage and overtime pay, and workplace safety rules to name a few.

In the fire service, wins made by labor and the IAFF are also wins for the public we serve: fully staffed apparatus, equipment and training standards, response time standards, presumptive illness protections. All of it helps ensure that a rested, healthy, trained, fully staffed crew arrives when 911 is called.

🔥 ATTENTION ALL L1775 Members.
We need you to please step up and join us in the 14th in Sacramento. If you’re not actively on-duty, please make the arrangements to stand with your brothers and sisters in Public Safety. This is what Labor Union Solidarity is all about. The Pension Reforms are for our people and their families.

CPF and L1775 has done their part in helping to get this through both parts of the State Legislature; it’s time that we ALL step up as firefighters and work to make this happen.

We need you in Sacramento on Monday, September 14th. Meet at the Capitol and let’s make sure Governor Gavin Newsom knows just how important this is to public safety.

AB 1383 just passed the California state senate, with bipartisan support 33-0. Next stop: the Governor's desk.
This is a meaningful, measured, and financially responsible fix to a PEPRA-era inequity that's followed our members for over a decade and created a recruitment and retention crisis that puts lives at risk.
Votes like this don't happen on their own. They happen because firefighters engage in political action, build relationships with legislators, and support the people who support us.
Stay in the fight.

CPF-priority legislation, SB 1024, passed the legislature and is headed to the Governor's desk. This historic legislation provides postpartum paid leave so female firefighters don't have to choose between starting a family and pursuing their careers.

Southern Marin Professional Firefighters asked for support. Local 1775 answered.

Residents and members of the public stood alongside active and retired firefighters from Southern Marin and agencies across the county.

Together they showed up to last night's Board of Directors meeting, exercising their right to speak publicly on an issue of significant public concern.

This is what solidarity looks like in Local 1775. When one of our nine agencies needs backup, the rest of us show up.
