When life gives you lemons... you call in the General Counsel. 🍋💼

Our April meeting had a bit of a plot twist when our scheduled speaker had to bow out. But if there’s one thing the HRCC knows how to do, it’s pivot!

William Hills (General Counsel ) stepped in at the 11th hour to lead an incredible, high-stakes discussion on employment claims. What could have been a setback turned into one of our most engaging Q&A sessions yet.

Proof that this community is built on resilience, expertise, and showing up for one another.

Meet Stefanie Stratton, HR Director at the SLO Country Club and one of our newest HRCC board members. With over 25 years in the industry, Stefanie is a go-to expert for all things employee relations and CA labor law. She joined the board last year because she loves to learn and share HR practices that bridge the gap between different industries.

For Stefanie, HR is a natural fit for her personal morals and work ethic. Her favorite part of the job? Helping people find their “forever career.” She brings a leadership style that is supportive, collaborative, and developmental to everything she does.

When she’s not navigating workplace regulations, Stefanie is likely hanging out with her granddaughter or prepping for another move—she’s lived in six states and moved 16 times! We’re happy to have her seasoned perspective on the board. 🌟

If “Strategic Planning” usually makes you want to take an extra-long coffee break, this meeting was for you. ☕️

Ericka Scott of joined us to flip the script on how we look at our orgs. Instead of just “filling out the boxes,” we talked about how HR can spot the cracks in communication and accountability before they become craters.

The HR superpower: We work across every department, so we see the real story. Ericka showed us how to turn those observations into actual priorities.
Less fluff, more follow-through.

We also had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Allison Ellis, who gave us an inside look at Cal Poly’s .mhr MRH program. It’s inspiring to see how the next generation of HR leaders are being shaped right here on the Central Coast!

Let’s get to work! 🚀

Meet our Board President, Misty Epperson! 👋✨

When she isn’t leading the charge as the Lead HR Business Partner at Entegris, Misty is a driving force here at HRCC. If you ask her why she stays, it’s all about the community. While she’s a pro at the heavy hitters—think Employee Relations, Wage & Hour Law, and Org Change—she’s currently diving deep into the world of AI. She’s on a mission to find out how we can make our daily HR tasks faster, smarter, and way more efficient. 🤖⚡️

Misty’s Golden Rule: In a field where everyone expects us to be walking encyclopedias, she’s here to remind you: It is 100% okay to say, “I’ll look into that and get back to you.” (Preach! 🙌)

When she’s "off the clock," you can find Misty thrifting for hidden gems with her daughter or recharging in the great outdoors (nothing beats a camping reset).

Give Misty a shout-out in the comments! 👇
