Happy 20th Anniversary, Cars.

Of all the movies that have taken place along Route 66, this film had the biggest impact and it shows. During my trip on the Mother Road in 2023, I’ve seen so many references to the movie. Whether it was on the map mural in Seligman, a rideable Lighting McQueen car in Cool Springs, or that weird Mater/Lightning hybrid vehicle in Williams AZ, you cannot underestimate the impact the movie has left on communities along Rt. 66. With that said, I certainly have memories of when it came out (it was the summer after my time in 6th Grade) and I do enjoy this movie. Not just for its fun characters, story, and setting, but also its way to explain the history of Rt. 66 in a while kids would understand. Enough to actually go down the Mother Road. That’s the best outcome I can see on a good story.

With the news that the Fresno Model Railroad Club is hosting Fresno’s first annual toy train show at the fairgrounds, I want to promote this group by sharing our video we made of the group back in 2023. This will tell you about this wonderful club and showcase their amazing layouts. If you want to show support and have some fun, go to their train show on June 27 and 28. It is going to be a fun time seeing model trains.

With the recent announcement of a 1954 built McDonalds in Pomona City being granted a historic landmark status, I want to remind folks of our trip to Downey CA to see the oldest operating location in the McDonalds chain; restaurant No. 3.

Lately, I have been thinking about adventures along the California Coast. Whether it’s the lively cities like Hermosa, and Redondo Beaches, the beautiful small towns like Morro Bay, or everything else in between, there’s always something pleasant about the beach. On this day, 157 years ago, the Transcontinental Railroad was finally completed at Promontory Summit UT with the driving of four ceremonial spikes. One of which was made out of gold. With the touching of the pilots of both the Central Pacific’s Jupiter and Union Pacific’s No. 119, the big part of the story was done.
