Join us for an evening of research, leadership, and meaningful dialogue on the future of education.

The Bay Area Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (BALEO), in collaboration with the Stanford Institute for Advancing Just Societies (Stanford IAJS), invites you to save the date for an Education Policy Briefing during Latino Heritage Month.

The evening will feature Professor sean reardon, Professor of Poverty and Inequality in Education at Stanford University and Director of the Educational Opportunity Project. A nationally recognized expert on educational inequality, Professor reardon will share insights from his groundbreaking research on educational opportunity, school segregation, and achievement gaps across the United States.

Following the briefing, BALEO will present the BALEO Trailblazer Award, honoring a pioneering Latino public servant whose leadership has broken barriers and paved the way for future generations.

This promises to be an inspiring evening celebrating scholarship, public service, and community leadership.

📣 Calling All Newly Elected Latino Leaders!

Are you a newly elected or soon-to-be elected Latino public official? Don't miss this incredible leadership development opportunity!

The 16th Biennial NALEO National Institute for Newly Elected Officials will take place November 17–19, 2026, at the Dallas Marriott Downtown in Dallas, Texas.

Since 1996, this nationally recognized "boot camp" has equipped newly elected leaders with the knowledge, skills, and network needed to succeed in public office. The Institute brings together municipal and county officials, school board members, community college trustees, and state legislators from across the country for three days of professional development and peer learning.

Eligible participants include:
✅ Municipal and county officials
✅ School board members
✅ Community college trustees
✅ State legislators
Elected from November 2024 through the November 3, 2026 election.

Applications will open in September, and space is limited. Paid NALEO members who are selected may be eligible for travel scholarships.

Congratulations to Noelia Corzo on her reelection to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors!

A lifelong resident of District 2 and the first Latina elected to the Board, Supervisor Corzo brings a deeply personal commitment to public service. From her work supporting foster youth and advocating for affordable housing and immigrant rights, to her service as a school board trustee and now County Supervisor, she has consistently centered equity, representation, and community voice.

Her lived experience as the daughter of working-class immigrants and as a working mother informs her leadership and strengthens her ability to serve San Mateo County’s diverse communities.
