Hi ALL! I hope you all are doing well. I work for a program with youth who are involved in the Juvenile Justice System in Santa Clara County, Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY Program). We train volunteers to be Mentors & advocates in the court room. You really don't need to have any experience, but you do need to have heart!! We ask that mentors meet with their mentee once a week. Our next training is coming up MAY 19TH & 20TH so please consider applying and joining us. The process involves 2 interviews, training, fingerprinting, & a swearing in ceremony with the Judge. You do need to be 21+ & have an license.
We host monthly events, such as go-karts, laser tag, kayaking, boba night, bowling, etc; The dope thing about these experiences is not only do the youth enjoy it, but you get to enjoy all of these things too, FOR THE FREE!
It's also GREAT experience if you want to work in the system, such as in probation, one day. Volunteering is also a great way to get your foot in the door if you're interested in working with youth programs!! Think about this "Be who you needed when you were younger." I STRONGLY encourage you to think about it. WE DO ASK FOR 1 YEAR but hopefully your mentee is a part of your life forever!
If this sounds like something you would be interested in please see our website and fill out the application: http://flyprogram.org/mentor-volunteer-application/ . OR feel free to contact the Match Manager, Shriel (408) 444-1961 or [email protected] .
