This National Foster Care Month, our “I Am Pivotal” campaign is highlighting the people, relationships, and support systems that help young people in and from foster care thrive. 💜

At the heart of that work are Pivotal coaches. Through individualized, trauma-responsive, relationship-driven support, coaches help scholars define success for themselves and build a path toward their goals from middle school through college and career readiness.

Now, she’s preparing to transfer to California State University: East Bay to study social work and show up for foster youth the way someone once showed up for her.

This May, for National Foster Care Month, we’re uplifting the voices behind our I Am Pivotal series. The people who show up, stay, and make growth possible.

Meet Anaztajia. For a long time, she felt pressure to do everything “right” and keep moving forward, no matter what. But when she lost her grandmother while in college, everything shifted.

In that moment, what mattered most wasn’t just school. It was knowing she wasn’t alone. Her Pivotal coach stayed by her side, offering steady support as Anaztajia made the decision to come home, reset, and keep going on her own terms.

Now, she’s finishing her final community college units and getting ready to transfer to California State University: East Bay to study social work, with a goal of showing up for foster youth the way someone once showed up for her.
