🍎 Feature Friday: South County Outreach and their Sharehouse project

What happens when a food pantry has access to fresh food but nowhere to store it?

That’s the challenge South County Outreach is working to solve through its Sharehouse initiative.

Sharehouse will expand cold storage and warehouse capacity so more fresh produce, dairy, and protein can be rescued, stored, and delivered to families across South Orange County.

Without this infrastructure, valuable food donations may have to be turned away, even as children, seniors, veterans, and working families continue to face food insecurity.

💙 Because fresh food only makes a difference when it reaches the people who need it.

What happens when a community has a solution ready but loses the support needed to fund it?

The Institute for Sustainable Communities works alongside locally led organizations to help build healthier, safer, climate-resilient communities.

Through its Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Centers work, they had engaged consultants to help nearly 200 grassroots leaders with grant writing and was helping local organizations navigate funding opportunities.

When funding was frozen, those efforts were put on hold.
