Today, we stop and think about the footprint we leave behind and the ecosystems we need to protect.

July 28th is World Nature Conservation Day. If you are looking for ways to participate in protecting our ocean today, you can start right in your own community:

- Organize or join a local beach or river cleanup to keep plastics out of our waterways.
- Reduce single-use plastics and audit your daily household waste.
- Plant native species in your garden to support local biodiversity and pollinators.
- Share a powerful documentary or story that helps someone else connect with the ocean.

Thank you for looking out for the planet and for being part of the journey toward healthy, productive oceans for everyone.

Until we have a 100% protected and healthy ocean, the mission is never over. πŸ’™

When you donate to IOFF, every dollar goes directly towards:
🌊 Bringing the world's most powerful ocean stories to audiences
🌊 Hundreds of Bay Area students experiencing ocean film, bringing ocean literacy to the next generation of changemakers.

We are a nonprofit powered by people who believe stories change the world. We invite you to join us by making a gift this July. Help us build a world that cares for our ocean.

This summer, as you spend time enjoying the ocean, you have a chance to take action, too. 🌊

Take the extra second to join us in protecting the ocean this summer:
1. Leave no trace β€” pack out everything you bring in
2. Give marine wildlife space in the water and on the boat β€” observe from a distance and never feed them
3. If you fish, follow local regulations and practice catch and release where possible
4. Choose reef-safe sunscreen to protect marine ecosystems
5. Reduce single-use plastic
6. Choose sustainably sourced seafood
7. Participate in a local beach clean-up β€” remove trash from these precious ecosystems
8. Watch an ocean film
9. Use your voice β€” support ocean-friendly policies and organizations fighting for change
10. Donate to IOFF β€” put money towards the heart of ocean education and awareness

Awareness is the first act of protection. Follow us to understand what the ocean gives us, and get first access to films that show you we fight hard to keep it.

Protecting the ocean never ends. 🌊

The International Ocean Film Foundation is looking for passionate, curious, and community-minded volunteers to help support our mission beyond the festival season.

From year-round programming support to board leadership opportunities, there are many ways to get involved and make an impact for ocean conservation and education. Throughout the year, our work extends to student programs, traveling film experiences, community outreach, and educational initiatives that connect people to the ocean and the importance of protecting it.

Explore current volunteer opportunities on our Idealist page and check back often as new roles are added. We’d love to hear from you.
