Behind the scenes, Student Nutrition Services and all the school food professionals have been working this week to get meals where they need to be and to the students who would like to eat with us. We’ve already served thousands of students across the district and we can’t wait to have more take advantage of school food as their first resort.

There are so many essential school supplies and we’re happy to have nutritious school meals taken care of for you. Students have access to 1 free breakfast and 1 free lunch daily at every SFUSD school. Take a look at the full 26-26 SY School Meal Guide at the link in our bio!

Thank you to all of the students who dined with us this school year, it was a pleasure to have you! What a year! Student Nutrition Services served thousands of meals every school day, held numerous student feedback sessions and focus groups, expanded dining staff training, transitioned to compostable trays, and celebrated milestones together. Every year we take steps to create a better school food experience and we hope you join us again in the Fall!

School meals will remain free for all students this summer and over the 26-27 school year.

Over the summer, if you’re looking for free meals for SF Youth, we have over 40 sites open to the public serving Breakfast and Lunch. Find a site near you at the .

Student Nutritions Services is hiring for two incredibly crucial roles to our work — Dietitian & Child Nutrition Programs Manager. These roles help us create nutrient dense, compliant menus. They help us track policy changes and adapt to any updates. And they offer training and support to ensure our dining staff understand the importance of students receiving complete meals (typically including a specific number and amount of food groups, ex: grains, protein, fruit & veggies). This Nutrition Month, we’re celebrating more freshly prepared meals for more SFUSD students!

Investing in upgraded serving lines that have temperature controlled bays at 10 middle and high schools (where a large portion of our student body attend) has translated into reducing the number of individually wrapped items, increasing our sustainability, and allowed us to launch fresh choice salad bars.

Our nutrition policy is one of the most progressive in the nation, and with that we believe that nutritious food can also be fun, delicious, and beautiful. Just look at those watermelon radishes on the salad bar at !

What an incredible day we had last week! 🌟

Our students brought their A-game to GENYOUth’s first-ever Super Schools Student Culinary Showdown, proving that when you give young people a seat at the table, they don’t just participate – they innovate.

and culinary students went head-to-head in John O’Connell High School’s commercial student kitchen () in the heart San Francisco’s Mission District. They created original school meal recipes that are nutritious, delicious, and culturally relevant. Both teams did outstanding work displaying the skills they learn all school year and demonstrating their ability to translate a task into delicious recipes. ’s culinary team took home the $10,000 culinary grant, and culinary team earned $5,000 – but every student here is already a winner.

These aren’t just recipes. They’re proof that student voice drives real change in school nutrition. The winning dishes will be featured on school menus and served at Taste of the NFL during Super Bowl LX weekend.

Huge congratulations to all our student chefs, and thank you to GENYOUth, celebrity chef mentors, judges, and partners for investing in the next generation of culinary leaders.

When students need a meal, we’ll be there ready with Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper.

1 free Breakfast and Lunch is available at every SFUSD School, every school day. And free Supper is available at over 90 SFUSD Schools. Supper is open to any youth in San Francisco, 18 years and younger and to SFUSD Access Students up to 22 years old. Come visit a Supper site for an afterschool nutritious meal.

For many students, school food is a lifeline and we’re proud to there for them.
