The Presidio of San Francisco has closed segments of two Presidio trails – the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail – to dog walkers due to the start of coyote pupping season, a time when coyote parents are especially active and protective of their den site.

The trails will be closed to all dogs on or off-leash from March 27 through early October.

The Park Trail closure extends from Mountain Lake to the Presidio Promenade (near Cavalry Stables). The Bay Area Ridge Trail is closed from the Rob Hill Campground to the Presidio Golf Course.

KEEP PUBLIC ACCESS TO THORNTON STATE BEACH

A private developer has blocked the only access from Thornton State Beach bluffs to the beach, a trail frequently used by hikers, horseback riders, dog walkers, families and the public.

This is no accident. It appears to be the same developer that previously tried to build a religious compound on the bluffs at Skyline and John Daly Blvd.

The California coast belongs to all of us. Sign this petition to keep public access to Thornton Beach and all California State Park beaches.

According to the city task force chair, the Animal Commission generated more letters, messages, and public comments than any of the approximately 135 city bodies and commissions under review.
