This is contributing immensely to the global water crisis we currently face!🌊

According to research, it can take around 1.85 gallons (7 liters) of water to produce a single 16.9-ounce (500 ml) plastic water bottle, including the water used to extract and refine the materials, as well as to operate the manufacturing process.

So, when you throw away a full water bottle, you're not only wasting the water within the bottle but also contributing to a larger indirect water footprint associated with its production and disposal.

Make sure you empty your old water bottles responsibly before recycling them. For example, use the extra water to irrigate your plants! 🪴

Greenwashing can have several negative effects on the environment:

Misallocation of Resources: When companies engage in greenwashing, they often focus on superficial changes or marketing tactics to appear environmentally friendly, rather than investing in substantial changes to reduce their environmental impact. This misallocation of resources prevents real progress in addressing environmental issues.

Continued Pollution and Resource Depletion: Greenwashing allows companies to maintain unsustainable practices while projecting a false image of sustainability. As a result, pollution, resource depletion, and other harmful environmental impacts continue unchecked, contributing to long-term degradation of ecosystems.
Stifling Innovation: By promoting the illusion of environmental responsibility without actual changes, greenwashing can discourage genuine innovation. Companies may be less motivated to develop and implement new technologies or practices that could have a positive impact on the environment.

Consumer Confusion and Apathy: Greenwashing can confuse consumers about what products and practices are truly environmentally friendly. This confusion can lead to apathy or skepticism, making it harder for individuals to make informed choices that contribute to a healthier planet.

Undermining Conservation Efforts: When companies falsely claim to support conservation or environmental causes, they divert attention and resources away from legitimate conservation efforts. This can hamper the effectiveness of genuine environmental initiatives by overshadowing them with misleading claims.

In essence, greenwashing perpetuates harmful practices, obstructs progress towards sustainability, and hinders the collective efforts needed to address pressing environmental challenges. ♻️🌎💚

If you’d like to dive deeper into these five points, read below 👇

1. Efficient use of resources: Dense cities utilize land, infrastructure, and resources more efficiently compared to suburban sprawl. By building vertically and compactly, dense cities maximize land use and reduce the need for extensive road networks, utility lines, and infrastructure. This efficiency leads to cost savings, reduced environmental impact, and a more sustainable use of resources.

2. Reduced environmental footprint: Dense cities have a smaller environmental footprint compared to suburban sprawl. The compact nature of dense cities promotes walking, cycling, and the use of public transportation, reducing reliance on private vehicles. This decreases carbon emissions, improves air quality, and mitigates traffic congestion. Additionally, the preservation of surrounding natural areas and agricultural land is facilitated by concentrating development in cities.

3. Enhanced social connectivity: Dense cities foster social connectivity and community interaction. The close proximity of residents, businesses, and amenities encourages social interaction, promotes a sense of belonging, and facilitates diverse cultural exchanges. Public spaces in dense cities, such as parks and plazas, provide gathering places for community activities, events, and shared experiences.

4. Accessible amenities and services: Dense cities offer a wide range of amenities and services within close proximity. Residents have easy access to schools, healthcare facilities, shopping centers, restaurants, entertainment venues, and cultural institutions. This accessibility reduces travel times, enhances convenience, and improves overall quality of life.

5. Economic opportunities: Dense cities often serve as economic powerhouses, attracting businesses, investment, and job opportunities. The concentration of diverse industries, talent pools, research institutions, and entrepreneurial activities in dense cities fosters innovation and economic growth. The close proximity of businesses and institutions encourages collaboration, knowledge sharing, and networking, leading to increased productivity and economic prosperity. 🌳🌎

Environmentalist highlight #3 📷🌏🌲🗻🏔⛰

Ansel Adams was an influential photographer and passionate environmentalist who dedicated his life to capturing the beauty of nature and advocating for its preservation. Through his iconic landscape photographs, particularly of Yosemite National Park, Adams inspired a sense of awe and appreciation for the natural world. He believed in the intrinsic value of wilderness and actively worked to protect it, co-founding the Sierra Club's photography committee and lobbying for the establishment of national parks. Adams' environmentalism went beyond his art; it encompassed a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to safeguard the planet for future generations. His work continues to inspire individuals to connect with nature and take action to protect our environment.

His work is currently on display at the through July 23, 2023.

Plastic recycling doesn’t work, no matter how diligently you wash out your peanut butter container. Only about 15 percent of plastic waste is collected for recycling worldwide, and of that, about half ends up discarded. That means just 9 percent of plastic waste is recycled.

The rest — some 91 percent of all plastic waste — ends up in landfills, incinerators, or as trash in the environment. One report estimated that 11 million metric tons of plastic trash leaked into the ocean in 2016, and that number could triple by 2040 as the global population rises and lower-income countries develop. Plastic is now simply everywhere: at the deepest depths of the ocean, on the tallest mountains, in hundreds of species of wildlife, and even in human placentas.

Although many other global treaty’s have been agreed upon for lowering emissions, this is the first focused on our planets addiction to plastic and how to solve it. This is what a lot of climate activists have been waiting for!

Methane is the second most significant greenhouse gas contributor and is about 30 times more potent at heating up the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. More than half of the methane released into the atmosphere is thought to come from the agricultural sector, and ruminant animals, such as cattle and goats, are the most significant contributors.

Fermentation & anaerobic process researchers from Washington State University found out that baby kangaroos have acetic acid-producing, instead of methane producing, bacteria in their foregut. They tested a stable mixed culture developed from baby kangaroo f***s in a simulated stomach, it produced acetic acid instead of methane. Unlike methane, which cattle discard as flatulence, acetic acid benefits cows as it aids muscle growth. They published their work in the journal Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology.

Eco-anxiety is very real, and seems to be affecting us in one way or another. We are constantly presented with gloom and doom about the condition our environment is in. While there’s a lot to be worried about, we must not lose hope. Small improvements & solutions to the many factors affecting our climate should also be highlighted, along with the people making them happen 👨🏽‍💻🧑🏼‍🔬👩🏻‍⚖️👨🏻‍💼🌎

Transportation accounts for 28% of all CO2 emissions around the world 🚙💨

Over the past half century, suburban sprawl has made bikeable/walkable cities less common, which has greatly affected our environment 🌎

One of the best ways to offset this, is for people who still live in bikeable/walkable cities to take advantage of the increased infrastructure that exists in these cities. 🚴🚴🏾‍♂️🚴🏼‍♀️

The three Colorado River lower basin states; California, Nevada, and Arizona will be required to conserve an unprecedented 3 million-acre-feet of water through 2026. The three Colorado River lower basin states; California, Nevada, and Arizona will be required to conserve an unprecedented 3 million-acre-feet of water through 2026.

The Colorado River Basin supplies drinking water to 40 million people in the U.S., as well as two states in Mexico, fuels hydropower resources in eight states, and remains a crucial resource for 30 tribal nations as well as agriculture communities across the West.

The proposal comes as a decadeslong megadrought has reduced water levels in the Colorado River, Lake Mead, and Lake Powell (the two largest reservoirs in the world) to record-low levels.

the average Californian used 83 gallons of water per day in April, but San Franciscans consumed less than half of that at 40 gallons per day. Meanwhile, residents of Riverside County used 137 gallons.
