All Eyes on Antarctica isn't just a film; this is a call to action.

The Southern Ocean is in crisis, and these filmmakers are demanding that the CCAMLR, the international body entrusted with protecting Antarctic marine ecosystems, act.

Join the call by sharing this post, and telling the CCAMLR to:
🧊 Close the Southern Ocean to krill fishing and safeguard Antarctic wildlife and global climate stability.
🧊 Establish the Domain 1 Marine Protected Area—eradicating krill fisheries within it as a minimum step toward a full network of marine protected areas in the Southern Ocean.
🧊 Reform CCAMLR to ensure its conservation mandate is actually enforced.
🧊 Protect at least 30% of Antarctica's waters as part of the global Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework 30×30 commitment.

Antarctica is a cornerstone of our planet's climate system, and it is running out of time.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible Gretchen Coffman. 🌊

Gretchen has been on our screening committee for 20 years, helping shape the festival lineup by reviewing hundreds of films. This year, she also brought the ocean to life in a whole new way through her immersive VR experience at Cowell Theater.

In Community Reef Restoration Bali 360, she invites viewers into an underwater world of sharks, sea turtles, and vibrant reef fish — while revealing the urgent reality facing coral ecosystems in Bali, in partnership with Livingseas Asia Foundation.🪸

It's people like Gretchen who keep ocean literacy alive and growing. We are so grateful. Learn more about the VR Program here: heyor.ca/JTOpZw

Now the largest ocean film festival in the world. 🌍

Since 2004, the International Ocean Film Festival has grown from a bold idea into a global platform for ocean literacy and independent film.

Over two decades, we've screened films from filmmakers across 35 countries and built a worldwide community. We've been endorsed by the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. We've honored legends like Dr. Sylvia Earle, Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau Jr., and Director Louie Psihoyos. We've opened with CNN films. And we've launched an Ambassador Council of some of the most dedicated ocean advocates on the planet.

But what we're most proud of? The students. The scientists. The first-time filmmakers. The people who walked into our theater uncertain and left with a mission. The impact is just begining. 🎥

We know the next generation of ocean advocates is already here. 🌊

This year, hundreds of Bay Area middle and high school students filled BATS Improv Theater at Fort Mason for our 20th Annual Free Student Education Program.

Ocean education is at the heart of everything we do. The kids that joined us aren't just the next generation of ocean lovers, they're the next generation of scientists, storytellers, and changemakers.

The films may end, but the mission doesn't. 🎥

The 23rd Annual IOFF has come to a close, but the stories we carry will remain. From marine science to coastal cultures, from student filmmakers to seasoned directors, this festival proved once again that film has the power to move people from awareness to action.

To every filmmaker who trusted us with their vision, every volunteer who showed up with heart, and every audience member who stayed through the credits and left with a purpose on their mind, thank you.

We believe stories change people & together we can change the world. 🌊

Sunday was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do! We’re still feeling the momentum from Day Three's incredible lineup and deep-dive conversations.

From the U.S. Premiere of Depth: A Game Beyond the Rules to the World Premiere of Superfish: Salmon, the films brought the wonders and challenges of the ocean right to our screens.

Our panels added even more depth, featuring "En Clave," a celebration of Latine ocean leadership presented by Azul, and "Keep it Wild," a vital look at salmon protection presented by CalTrout.

Great news! The journey doesn't have to end just because the weekend did. Our Online Film Festival is officially open through April 28th! Whether you want to rewatch your favorite short or catch a feature you missed in person, you can stream it all from your living room.

Grab your digital pass at the link below and help us keep the momentum going for ocean conservation.

We are still riding the wave from such an incredible weekend!

Day Two was a truly special experience at the festival, fueled by a shared passion for our blue planet and the stories that protect it.

The day took us on a global journey, from the deep-sea world of apex predators to the frontlines of plastic-reduction and climate resilience. It was amazing to see our filmmakers and experts take the stage, sharing the behind-the-scenes insights that make these ocean stories even more impactful.

Seeing our community come together like this is a beautiful reminder that the ocean connects us all.

We’d love to hear from you - which film or moment from Saturday stayed with you the most? Share your highlights in the comments! 👇

The Dolphins
Coral in Focus
Lands End
Love Birds

Followed by Program 2, presented by Monterey Bay Aquarium:
🌍 The Race to 30x30 with Dr. Sylvia Earle

A highlight of the night? An inspiring call to action from Sylvia Earle herself, challenging all of us to be ocean stewards and accelerate progress toward protecting 30% of our blue planet.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Opening Night and helped create such an electric, meaningful start to the festival. This is what community, storytelling, and impact look like.
