That’s a wrap on surgery day! πŸΆπŸˆβ€β¬›πŸ’› Our team spent the day spaying and neutering 30 rescue dogs from Jelly's Place, and several cats from East Bay SPCA

Each pup is now resting up and one step closer to a forever home.

Huge thanks to East Bay SPCA for sharing their spay/neuter facility with us, and to , , and for making this weekend’s Champions for Pet Health possible. πŸ™

At Vets in Vans, we talk a lot about shelter diversion - which is sometimes as simple as offering a solution to keep pets and their families together. One of the biggest reasons that people need to relinquish their pets to the shelter is the lack of affordable supplies and services - especially during a cost of living crisis like we're experiencing now.

Franklin is a perfect example of how quickly an everyday health concern can turn into an expensive veterinary need. His family noticed that he wasn't eating as much and brought him in for a check-up. Our vet identified significant dental disease and recommended a dental procedure. With some financial assistance from Vets in Vans, his family was able to move forward with scheduling the care he needed.

This type of act is shelter diversion without giving it a name.

Franklin's family wasn't considering surrendering him for financial reasons. But his story shows how something as seemingly simple as bad teeth can become painful, affect a pet's health and ability to eat, and require an expensive procedure. For another family without somewhere affordable to turn, a veterinary bill like Franklin's could become an impossible expense.

A hospitalization. A lost paycheck. An unexpected bill. For a family already stretched thin, veterinary care can easily become an expense they can't afford. This is why Vets in Vans needs donations of every size - every gift helps us keep veterinary care affordable, step in before financial hardship becomes a crisis, and keep more pets healthy, at home, and with the families who love them. 🐢🧑😺

Yesterday in Visitacion Valley in SF, we handed out almost 100 bags of dog and cat food to neighbors who needed a little help feeding their pets this month.

Pet food pantries like this one are a quiet but essential part of what we do β€” because keeping people and their pets together starts with making sure no one has to choose between the two.

Huge thanks to PetSmart Charities and to everyone who makes days like this possible. If you want to help us keep the shelves stocked for the next one, our link is in bIo.
