✨ September is Pet Insurance Month ✨

Did you know that while the U.S. pet insurance industry surpassed $4.7 billion in 2024 (according to the North American Pet Health Insurance Association’s 2025 State of the Industry report), only a small fraction of dogs are actually insured?

📊 Out of 163.6 million pets in the U.S., just 6.4 million were insured by the end of 2024. That means only 5.5% of dogs are covered.

This gap shows how many families face unexpected veterinary costs without the safety net of insurance. Research also shows that dog parents with insurance are more likely to seek veterinary care, leading to healthier outcomes for their pets.

🐶 At K9nMe, we are committed to researching and sharing insights like these through our Dog Care Index (DCI), which analyzes the full spectrum of dog ownership costs, including insurance. Our goal is to educate, support, and empower dog parents to plan ahead and provide the best care possible.

It is Dogust, the universal birthday month for shelter dogs! 🎉🐾
Started by North Shore Animal League America, Dogust celebrates dogs waiting for their forever homes and raises awareness for adoption.

But here is the hard truth: Over 3 million dogs are surrendered back to shelters shortly after adoption. Our Dog Care Index (DCI) shows that unexpected costs such as housing issues, vet bills, and rising food and grooming expenses are major reasons why.

Before bringing a dog home, learn what it truly takes to give them a lifetime of love and security. ❤️

📊 Explore the DCI at k9nme.org and help us share data driven insights that keep dogs in their forever homes.

Hey humans🐾, we know you want the best for us, and that starts with understanding what it really costs to care for us over a lifetime. At K9nMe, our Dog Care Index looks at expenses by size instead of breed because size is a better guide for essentials like food, medication, supplies, and certain health needs.🐶🐶🐶

By grouping us into Small, Medium, Large, and Giant categories, the Dog Care Index gives you practical, accurate, and inclusive insights that work for every dog whether we are a purebred or mixed.

Your support helps K9nMe grow the Dog Care Index and continue giving pet parents the information they need to plan for a lifetime of love and responsibility.

Today, we honor the extraordinary courage and unwavering dedication of our U.S. Army Military Working Dogs (MWDs)!

With a tradition of official service dating back to the K-9 Corps of World War II, these incredible animals have been indispensable partners to our soldiers for decades. They serve in critical roles, from detecting explosives and narcotics to tracking and patrolling, often operating in the most challenging and dangerous environments.

The bond between an MWD and its handler is truly unique – built on mutual trust, rigorous training, and profound loyalty. It's a testament to this bond and their invaluable contributions that Military Working Dogs are traditionally given a rank one higher than their human handler. They are not just equipment; they are respected members of the team.

We salute these four-legged heroes and their two-legged counterparts for their selfless service to our nation.
