Bay Area Jewish Action Advancing a just society where Jewish identity is embraced and all people can thrive.

03/19/2026

In the wake of October 7, the Bay Area Jewish community recognized that much of our advocacy was shifting into the political arena. BAJA was created to meet that moment. As a 501(c)(4), we are able to engage more directly and effectively on the issues impacting our community.

BAJA Director Jonathan Mintzer recently joined leaders from New York Solidarity Network and BAACA at the Jewish Funders Network International Conference to discuss local political engagement and what it takes to build power at the community level.

We are proud to be mobilizing Jewish advocacy across the Bay Area to advance our shared priorities and confront rising antisemitism.

Last Friday, BAJA hosted our second annual Blue Shabbat, bringing together 300 delegates, elected officials, and community leaders during the California Democratic Party Convention. More than a dozen state legislators joined us, along with Jewish candidates for statewide office, Senator Ben Allen, Josh Fryday, and former Senator Josh Newman. The evening highlighted the strength and impact of the Jewish community within the Democratic Party.

We are grateful to our cohosts and partners, Democratic Majority for Israel, the California Legislative Jewish Caucus, and Jewish Public Affairs Committee of California (JPAC).

Introducing BAJAPAC.

When elected officials use their platforms irresponsibly, from praising Hamas to promoting harmful stereotypes about Jews, our community must respond.

That is why we are building a political action committee to support local and state candidates who stand with our community and act with integrity. 🤝

BAJAPAC invests directly in candidates who will combat antisemitism, advance Jewish values and inclusion, protect Jewish students, champion Holocaust education, secure nonprofit safety funding, and unequivocally support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state.

Your contribution helps turn our values into action by directly supporting leaders who stand with our community when it matters most. đź’™

This past weekend, BAJA hosted a celebratory Hanukkah launch party where we unveiled our 2026 election strategy and shared exciting plans for future growth. We were honored to be joined by Assemblymember Catherine Stefani and Assemblymember Damon Connolly, who spoke about the essential role of strong Jewish advocacy alongside Executive Director Tye Gregory, Director Jonathan Mintzer, and scores of Jewish community leaders.

A heartfelt thank you to our hosts Alison Pincus and Jan Reicher for bringing this event to life.

🚨ACTION ALERT (BY 11:59 P.M. TONIGHT!) Ensure Language in the Democratic Party’s Platform Supports a Two-State Solution

The California Democratic Party is finalizing its policy platform, which outlines positions on issues ranging from education to the environment. This year, activists are attempting to replace the party’s balanced, longtime support for Israel, Palestinians, and a negotiated two-state solution with divisive and biased language.

BAJA is proud to stand with a broad statewide coalition in supporting the Democrats United for Peace in the Middle East plank proposal ( #15802660), which protects and bolsters the responsible position already in the platform.

Sign on to the form below to ensure the platform continues to reflect Democratic values and the views of the mainstream Jewish community, including support for a secure Jewish state of Israel and a viable Palestinian state through mutual negotiation.

Last weekend, Bay Area Jewish Action (BAJA) staff and volunteers traveled to Anaheim for the California Democratic Party Convention with a clear goal: to ensure the voices and priorities of the Jewish community were heard - and respected.

🎉 We’re proud to share: no anti-Israel resolutions or hostile amendments were adopted. This didn’t happen by accident. It was the result of weeks of advocacy led by Jewish Democratic clubs, allies, and delegates from across the state - many attending their first convention. BAJA played a key role coordinating efforts and supporting delegates throughout the weekend.

🕯️ Friday night, we co-hosted a powerful Shabbat dinner with 200+ Jewish delegates and allies. Guests heard from Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Senate Pro Tem Mike McGuire, Former Controller Betty T. Yee, Senator Scott Wiener, Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, and more.

🤝 We met with lawmakers and party leaders to emphasize the need to combat rising antisemitism, recognize the complexity of the Israel-Hamas war, and advance priority legislation like AB 715 to protect Jewish students in K-12 schools.

This work matters - and it’s only possible because of community support.

Voters are beginning to cast their ballots in the November 2024 election, helping to shape our collective future in California's communities and beyond. For the Jewish community, this is one of the most consequential elections in living memory. In light of the dramatic rise in antisemitism we are experiencing today, Jewish voters will support candidates who understand their role in ensuring the Jewish community, and our neighbors, continue to thrive in the face of rising hate.

While Bay Area Jewish Action (BAJA) neither rates nor endorses, we are committed to educating candidates and elected officials about our policy priorities. We are also steadfastly encouraging the Jewish community to actively participate in the political process.

As informed by our shared values, Jewish voters will look critically at a candidate’s policy positions on issues that impact us directly.
