We are an extension of a global divestment movement to combat climate change but function as a grassroots organization here on campus. Our students have presented a resolution to ASI, University Affairs, the Dean of Students, and a variety of other administrative bodies to gain support and approval for this cause. Our presentations explain the dangers of the fossil fuel industry and their direct c

ontribution to global climate change, while at the same time connecting the language used in our investment policy of “socially responsible investments” to prove that our cause is important on multiple levels.

By Food Babe I am frankly shocked this information is not making front page news right now. Monsanto will do anything to bury this story… and as of right now, it’s working. Great news!

As you know Fossil Free SFSU has been working on a campaign to get a Monsanto-created pesticide called 'Roundup' off of campus.

Roundup contains an ingredient called glyphosate that was labeled by the World Health Organization as a probable carcinogen. Now, California has identified glyphosate as cancerous and is requiring that the bottles be labeled.

OUR SCHOOL USES CANCER-CAUSING PESTICIDES. WE ARE ALL AT RISK.

If you would like to be a part of getting rid of this pesticide permanently, you can do two things:

1) Sign our petition here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/14od0kmnKQiizWgw5qiKKO-HbaQvVG9IjX5fTJp-klnc/viewform?edit_requested=true

2) Join the movement. Meetings are on Mondays from 1-2 in Rosa Parks D (lower level Cesar Chavez)

Congratulations to everyone who has been working against something so disastrous. You are protecting the ones you care about and the environment that so desperately needs help.

Monsanto's flagship weedkiller Roundup is used across the country, from lawns to golf courses and even children's playgrounds. But while Monsanto i

I want to remind you that a part of being an environmentalist is standing up under the oppression that we all suffer.

What is the oppression that we all suffer? Well, we all have a lot on our plate: classes, jobs, internships, relationships. We often have little time or energy to focus on issues that really matter to us.

What are the problems we care about? Just to note some examples: the Amazon Rainforest is being torn down a football field a minute to make room for cattle that feed the U.S. Our oceans are massively over-fished. The U.S. and China are both emitting at a rate that the earth cannot sustain. Glacial ice caps are melting. Sea levels are rising. Low lying islands are going under water. Corporate greed and malice has undermined the very system that we expect to support and take care of us.

The truth is that we cannot always sit back and expect someone else to take care of these problems. Especially not now under the Trump administration.

That is why it is up to US, as students and conscious global citizens, to learn how to take action, and to do so as quickly and efficiently as possible.

It is my intention to use Fossil Free SFSU as an avenue for like-minded students to convene and learn what we have to do to create change. And get change done! We have a lot of power as students - especially in numbers.
