Nonprofit assisting educators in teaching about human rights and genocide, with particular expertise in the Armenian Genocide and its parallels with othwr genocides. The Genocide Education Project is a nonprofit organization that assists educators in teaching about human rights and genocide, particularly the Armenian Genocide, by developing and distributing instructional materials, providing access to teaching resources and organizing educational workshops.

As we conclude the 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellowship Program trip to Armenia, the GenEd Teacher Fellows come away with not only an understanding of the Armenian Genocide and its continuing effects, but the value of Armenian culture, history, language to the global community.

A new addition to our Agenda! 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows visited Gyumri, “Orphan City.” Our Education Director Kerri Flynn worked diligently with Gyumri native and filmmaker, Ani Manukyan, to organize a field trip focused on the major US humanitarian efforts to save Armenian Genocide survivors. The GenEd Teacher Fellows were take to see the places that housed over 30,000 Armenian orphans, survivors of the Armenian Genocide. The Near East Relief foundation used three former Russian military barracks to house, feed, clothe, heal, and educate these sons and daughters of the Armenian nation. We met with our local guide and descendent of an orphan survivor, Mariné, who shared her family experience and knowledge about the orphanages. We also took a walking tour of the city and visited The TUMO Center for Creative Technologies which is a free educational program made up of self-learning activities, workshops and project labs for children from all over the region.

Our 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows got a special tour of the Madenataran: a museum and repository of manuscripts. There they also learned to write their initials in Armenian- using the ancient Armenian manuscript font style “Trchnakir” or “Bird Letter.”

July 16, 2026 - Today was an incredibly moving day full of learning! Our 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows discussed and reflected on many of the topics discussed throughout the week (discussion led by GenEd Education Director, Kerri Flynn). Our 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows were then accompanied by George School students to tour the temporary exhibit with Dr. Regina Galustyan. The temporary exhibit focused on “Documenting the Crime: Eyewitnesses.” This was then followed by George School students presenting their media projects with AGMI staff and the 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows.

Dr. Dikran Kaligian, GenEd board member discussed two topics: “Independent Armenia of 1918 and Sovietization” as well as “The Legacy of Genocide” to our 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows. The afternoon was spent visiting the fallen heroes at Yerablur (Military Memorial Cemetery), Sardarabad monument and museum, and ended the night at Van Ardi Winery.

Then 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows covered the “Introduction to the Denial of the Armenian Genocide” from Dr. Dikran Kaligian, GenEd Board Member. Today our 2026 GenEd Teacher Fellows got to hear about “The Creation of a Genocidal Environment in the Ottoman Empire” from Dr. Suren Manukyan, Head of the Department of Comparative Genocide, AGMI. They also got to hear from our Genocide Education programming assistant Christina Chiranian-Daduryan on Teaching Genocide as a 4th generation Armenian Genocide Survivor, and later for to hear from AUA students to get their perspective on Armenia today. The day was then concluded with a trip to Khor Virap Monastery and dinner at Yerevan Taverna Riverside - where teachers got to watch a performance of Hayk and Pel.
