Clownprov with Rebecca Poretsky
July 7 & 14, 2026
2 CLASSES - TUESDAYS, 7-9pm

This workshop is intended for clowns who could benefit from building more spontaneity, presence, and listening skills and improvisers who could benefit from building some more physical character and play skills.Things we’ll cover include: spontaneity, listening, storytelling, making strong physical choices, and failing cheerfully.
We’ll explore the concepts of “yes, and” complicité, status, and making your partner look good, whether it’s a clown duo partner, an improv scene partner, or the audience as your partner.

Most importantly, we will PLAY HARD.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Rebecca Poretsky has been improvising for over 20 years.  She was a company member and coach with the acclaimed BATS Improv for 10+ years, has taught improv at USF, performed with Crisis Hopkins, Un-Scripted Theater Co, and Awkward Dinner Party in SF and trained at BATS and at the Annoyance Theater in Chicago. Rebecca has trained in acting and clown at Shakespeare and Company in Lenox, MA and red nose clown with Giovanni Fusetti in Boulder. She’s developed and performed numerous solo performance pieces and co-created and participated in numerous original ensemble pieces. You can also find her in a bizarre number of semi-viral cat-themed videos online. She specializes in embodied, character, and narrative-driven scene work and improvisation. She loves helping people get out of their heads and into their bodies and remember that they know how to play.

Ughmerica the Beautiful Cabaret
Friday, July 3 & Saturday July 4
Doors 7:30 | Show 8PM

Does the thought of a performative celebration of patriotism in the face of American decline make your head feel like bursting? Does the fanciful frivolity of a firework show feel a bit out of place this year? Do you feel less like celebrating our nation and more like screaming into the void until your throat bleeds?

If so, we invite you to experience the cathartic commiseration that only a clown could curate. This July 3rd & 4th spare yourself the spectacle of the state and join us at Church of Clown for an evening of satire, absurdity, and resistance in UGHmerica The “Beautiful”, a 4th of July Clown Cabaret. These strange, funny, heartfelt, messy, musical, confrontational and beautifully unhinged acts will explore politics, patriotism, power, protest in cutting commentary on our American Circus.

Shakespeare's Fools with
June 15-July 6, 2026
4 WEEK CLASS - Mondays, 7-9pm

“All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players”
Brave the wandering Forests of Arden, the rigid Castles of Elsinore, and the bustling streets of Verona for a deep dive into the funny-folk and truth-tellers of the English Renaissance- The Fools! In this physical acting class, students will excavate the gamut of Shakespearean Clowns, Fools, and Mythic Entities.
Acting instructor Jamin Jollo will guide performers to develop their unique spins on traditional Fool and Clown archetypes through scenes and monologues from Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies, comedies, and histories. This class will arm creators with tools to analyze scripts, craft dramatic narratives, and cast a physical point of view upon their audience. Actors will walk away with an analyzed, adapted “Fools” monologue, a deeper understanding of Shakespearean text, and insight into playing a duet clown scene in a “heightened language” play.

This class is for all skill levels and areas of performing interest.
Bring a writing utensil, comfortable clothes, and a playful curiosity.
