According to some estimates, there are 3,361 fraternal organizations in the state of alone. Freemasonry is among the oldest of them, and certainly the most influential. But that influence goes both ways.

Just as many fraternal organizations have borrowed from blue lodge Masonry, so too has the craft borrowed elements from other and quasi-Masonic rites—from groups as varied and mystical as the Swedenborgian Rite, the Zuzimites, and countless others.

Those connections are at the heart of the 2024 California Masonic Symposium on Wednesday, August 28. At this FREE, online event, join Masonic scholars for a range of presentations on some of the most mysterious and esoteric Masonic rites—what is often referred to as "fringe Masonry."

A Masonic ring is a piece of jewelry worn by members of the Freemasonry fraternity to symbolize their affiliation with the organization. Masonic rings typically feature various symbols and emblems associated with Freemasonry, such as the square and compasses, the letter "G," the All-Seeing Eye, and sometimes the skull and crossbones. These rings are often personalized with individual Masonic symbols or designs that hold personal significance to the wearer. Masonic rings are worn as a sign of pride and commitment to the principles and values of Freemasonry.

It’s a quirky blend of ancient tradition and modern morality, with its roots reaching back to medieval stonemasons, but now open to men from all walks of life, all in the pursuit of personal improvement and a better world. But let me tell you, there’s a good bit of humor and irony in it, too.

When a small group of Masons in 2016 formed Logos No. 861, the lodge—initially without a meeting hall—had to be mobile enough to set up and break down meetings. So they decided early to craft their own ceremonial objects, and that would play an important role in defining the lodge culture.

From custom aprons and setting mauls to immersive audio installations, members of Logos No. 861 not only aim to impart the teachings of to future members but also contribute to the ongoing narrative of Masonry.
