We’re kicking off this year’s Young Brother Stories with Stefon! He’s one of our 11th grade Young Brothers and has been part of Club FBS for a year.⁠

Stefon enjoys creating digital artwork and taking photos, and hopes to become an architect. Flip through to learn more about his interests, goals, and what being part of Club FBS means to him.⁠

Today we’re highlighting one of Club FBS’s dedicated mentors, Dr. Robert Walker, who has been involved with the program for three years.⁠
⁠
Dr. Walker grew up locally, just like many of our Young Brothers. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he now serves as Physician Director of Operations at Marque Urgent Care, which operates locations in San Diego and Orange Counties.⁠
⁠
For him, mentoring is a responsibility we all share. When asked why he supports Club FBS, he put it simply: “It is important that we give back to our communities, especially to our young Black Kings.”⁠

What is money? Why do people accept it? What happens when it buys less over time?⁠
⁠
Those questions launched Mr. Johnson’s first Money Mastery lesson of the 2026–27 Club FBS year. The Young Brothers explored how people have used everything from cattle and salt to gold, paper bills, and digital balances to trade, set prices, and save.⁠
⁠
They also looked at the difference between income and wealth. Earning more doesn’t necessarily mean owning more, especially when debt enters the picture.⁠
⁠
It’s a foundation they’ll build on as they learn about saving, investing, and making decisions with money throughout the year.⁠

We kicked off the 2026–27 Club FBS year on Sunday with 35 Young Brothers and a question that sounds simple until you try to answer it: Who owns the value?

In Mr. Clark’s lesson, the Young Brothers used sports, a scene from Colin in Black & White, and the opening pages of 40 Million Dollar Slaves to explore the relationship between money, ownership, and power. They also grappled with what it means to be successful, and whether earning a lot gives you control over the value you create.

Mr. Johnson’s Money Mastery lesson brought another question to the room: What is money? We’ll share more on that next.

A new Club FBS year is taking shape.⁠

Recently, Young Brothers and their parents joined us for our 2026-27 cohort interest meeting to learn more about the program, meet the Club FBS community and get a preview of the year ahead.⁠
⁠
Parents heard from Mr. Clark while the young men participated in an exercise led by Mr. Johnson that introduced one of the ideas at the heart of Club FBS: learning to make financial choices in service of the life you want to live.⁠

We look forward to welcoming back our returning Young Brothers and bringing new members into the Club FBS community.⁠

Today, we’re celebrating the man behind Club FBS and someone who has spent years simply showing up.

Showing up to teach. To mentor. To serve a plate. To create new experiences. To celebrate milestones. And yes, even to catch a wave or two.
