Open to the public 7 days a week from 10am to 5pm. The Children’s Nature Retreat welcomes visitors of all ages, allowing everyone to enjoy and explore the beautiful and tranquil surroundings at their leisure. This magical and serene ranch-style retreat, with its 20-acres of terrain, is a safe haven to over 200 domesticated livestock and exotic animals from around the world. The Retreat is specifically designed to help children develop a sense of wonder for nature and its inhabitants through unstructured exploration and learning. Fun and educational `interactive encounters’ are available for everyone to learn and foster an appreciation for animals, nature, sustainable farming and the ecosystem. Our Vision

In our increasingly digital-dependent and urbanized world, we are loosing touch with nature. With this in mind, we believe the Children’s Nature Retreat offers a rich connection to the earth, its plants and animals. We allow guests to step away from their fast pace life, reduce stress levels and find their balance in nature.

Almost 3 inches of rain… We needed it so much. Very grateful for it! But with the heat and then the storm, our number of visitors decreased. Your visit funds the care of our nearly 200 animals and helps them thrive. Interacting with our guests is one of the enrichment activities they need daily. So when you visit you really help our animals stay healthy and happy. 💚
We are looking forward to seeing you back!

What a special day at the farm! 🐐🐷🦙
A team of emergency veterinarians from Encinitas chose Alpine Acres for their annual group outing, and we couldn’t have been happier to host them. They enjoyed a guided tour of the sanctuary, met our residents up close, and spent time hand-feeding the animals.
Coming from emergency vets, their kind words meant the world to us. They told us how impressed they were with how healthy and well cared for our residents look. That’s the best compliment a sanctuary can get!
We also learned something that surprised us. Their patients aren’t just dogs and cats. They’ve treated alpacas, porcupines, pigs, and even emus! Their motto? If the animal fits through the door, they’ll do their best to help. 💛
Thank you for spending your special day with us and for supporting our mission. We’re so glad you found us, and we’re even happier to have found you.
Looking for a unique outing for your team or group? Send us a message to book a guided tour!

His knee was dislocated, his ligaments were not keeping it in place. Dr. Oman works his magic and the surgery was successful. The sling stays on 5 days… almost ready to go back to his friends.

Did you know that this week, it is cooler at the farm than other places in San Diego? Our pigs love to meet our guests. You can bring a picnic and enjoy some quiet time with us. We are open daily from 10am to 5pm.

Lilac and Violet, our two mini donkeys who arrived first at the farm in October 2015 enjoy their quiet life at the farm but get their exercise in when one is going on a walk…
Watch with the sound on 😅

Our mini donkeys are incredibly sweet 💚. Look at them following Suzy… Glad to be right there to capture that cute moment…

On Sunday, Grimm dislocated his kneecap in his back left leg, the same leg that had a rod placed in 2023.
His vets agreed surgery to repair the ligaments gives him the best chance of recovery. It’s scheduled for next week.
Until then, he’s on stall rest with pain meds and his leg in a sling.
His care is estimated at $3,000. Please keep him in your prayers, and if you can help, our donation link is in the bio.

Our first Animal Talk was a success! 🐴
Thank you to everyone who came to meet Little, our dwarf horse, with Suzy under the oak trees. We talked about dwarfism, feeding, special needs care, and how Little helps kids with autism and other disabilities feel calm and connected.
Join us every last Saturday of the month at around 11am to meet our residents. 💚

Truffle is so cute! She loves to act like a trained dog. It is her thing.
