MEMBERSHIP SPOTLIGHT: LORRAINE DUARTE

Meet Lorraine Duarte, founder of Dance Fitness with Lorraine—a Health & Wellness Leader proving that purpose has no age limit!

After a remarkable 30-year career with Sacramento County government, Lorraine retired in 2014. But retirement didn’t mean slowing down—it created space for a new purpose.

At 62, she became a Zumba® instructor. At 63, she started her business: Dance Fitness with Lorraine. Today at 66, she continues to grow, learn, move, and inspire others.

Through Lorraine Duarte, LLC, doing business as Dance Fitness with Lorraine, Lorraine provides professional movement experiences throughout Chula Vista, the South Bay, and surrounding San Diego communities.

Her services include contracted movement experiences for:
• Local government and organizations
• Workplace wellness
• Corporate team building
• Private groups
• Community collaborations
• Special events
• Senior living communities

With certifications including Zumba®, Zumba + Lift™, Aqua Zumba®, Zumba Gold®, CIRCL Mobility™, Zumba® Rhythms 2 & 3, Plate By Zumba®, and Certified Fitness Instructor through the National Council on Strength and Fitness, Lorraine continues to expand her expertise.

Lorraine is also an active community advocate. She is a graduate of the Chase for Business Coaching for Impact and BBB Breakthrough Accelerator programs, was nominated for the 2025 NCCC Woman-Owned Business of the Year, and has been recognized for her community contributions. In 2024, she also served as a women’s conference speaker on “Fuel Your Fire: How Food & Fitness Ignite Self-Care.”

We are proud to have Lorraine as part of the NLBWA-SD community and celebrate the energy, resilience, and wellness she brings to the women and communities she serves.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: Amanda Izaguirre-Lumm

Today, we’re proud to spotlight Amanda Izaguirre-Lumm — a native San Diegan, business professional, lifelong learner, and dedicated community advocate who exemplifies the power of leadership through service.

Amanda serves as a Program Manager for the Business Department at UC San Diego Division of Extended Studies, where she helps manage Accounting and Finance programs that support adult professionals pursuing new careers, expanding their expertise, and working toward CPA certification.

But Amanda’s impact extends far beyond her professional career.

As a Lifestyle Coach for UC San Diego’s National Diabetes Prevention Program offered in Spanish, Amanda supports Spanish-speaking participants and their families as they work toward healthier, sustainable lifestyles. Her work helps create greater access to education, encouragement, and tools that can positively impact individuals and families for years to come.

Amanda is also the Treasurer for Friends of the Library at Skyline Hills Library, where she provides fiduciary oversight and helps support programs that bring free educational and community-building opportunities to local families.

And through Brown Girls Book Club SD, Amanda helps create a welcoming space where women can celebrate diverse stories, amplify the voices of women of color, and build meaningful friendships through literature.

Amanda’s journey is a beautiful example of what it means to lead with purpose. Her work connects education, professional development, health, literacy, and community — creating opportunities for people to learn, grow, connect, and thrive.

At NLBWA-SD, we celebrate members like Amanda who are not only building meaningful professional lives, but are also investing their time, talents, and hearts back into the community.

NLBWA-SD MEMBERSHIP SPOTLIGHT: ADELA GIESSEN Founder | CEO of Petals of Hope Safe House Coalition

Meet Adela Giessen, Founder & CEO of Petals of Hope Safe House Coalition and founder of W2OMG, Inc.

Adela’s journey from law enforcement and community policing to survivor advocacy is deeply personal. After her teenage daughter experienced an abusive relationship, the work Adela had spent years teaching others about prevention suddenly became her family’s reality.

Instead of letting that experience break her, Adela allowed it to deepen her purpose.

What began with flowers, a garden, faith, and a mother’s determination to never stop searching and praying has grown into a mission dedicated to preventing exploitation, supporting survivors, restoring hope, and creating pathways to independence.

Through Petals of Hope, survivors are welcomed into safe spaces where they can heal, create, celebrate, learn, and rediscover their gifts.

Through Where 2 Or More Gather Garden Weddings & Events and Petals of Hope Flower Boutique & Mobile Café, survivors can gain hands-on experience in floral design, hospitality, events, entrepreneurship, and business.

And through their Tiny Home of Hope, Adela is helping create pathways toward transitional housing and greater stability.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief:

Survivors are more than what happened to them. They are loved. They are valued. They have purpose. And they have a future.

Adela reminds us that everyone has something to bring to the table—whether you mentor, pray, create, give, connect, teach, or simply show up.

That is Petals of Hope: A Mission in Action — Where 2 Or More Gather in Love & Purpose.

MEMBERSHIP SPOTLIGHT Wendy Egan Founder / Inclusive Kids Network

This week, we are proud to spotlight the inspiring founder of Inclusive Kids Network, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit created to build bridges—not pockets—and create a community where children of all abilities have opportunities to participate, connect, and belong.

As a mother of a son on the autism spectrum, she experienced firsthand the barriers families face when community programs aren’t equipped to accommodate children with different needs. That experience became the inspiration behind Inclusive Kids Network.

Today, the organization provides inclusive recreational, social, sensory, art, fitness, and community experiences for children and families, including neurodivergent children and children with developmental disabilities.

Her measure of impact isn’t simply numbers—it’s the child who gets to participate instead of watching from the sidelines, the parent who finds a welcoming community, and children learning that differences are a valuable part of our world.
