It is our mission to do the most good for the animals! Contact us for information on fostering, adoption, and surrenders. San Diego H**petological Society has been around since 1978 (39 years). Over the years the Society has maintained many different roles - from a social meeting group for like minded h**p keepers to share knowledge, formal educator and in recent history (past decade) a rescue org
anization. We continue to focus our efforts as a rescue organization because of the demand for services and no other official groups that can properly house, care and rehome the volume of animals coming in each year. We encourage everyone to do your research before adding any pet to your home and family so you understand the longevity of the animal, its particular care needs, housing and food requirements. We do not have a store front or public location as the relinquished animals are housed at the private homes of our officers and select foster families. Appointments must be coordinated with the officer housing the animal you are interested in adopting. In order to adopt an animal from the Society an individual must be at least 18 years of age. If you are living at home and 18 or older, we will need the permission of a parent for the adoption to go forward. Please understand that under no circumstances can adopted animals be used for breeding. Males and females cannot be co-housed. Adoption fees are charged to help cover the cost of care of the animal while we worked to find a suitable permanent home. Adoption fees range from $30 to $200 dependent on the species. Adopter must demonstrate sufficient knowledge on the species and means to be able to care for the animal in order to adopt. Adoption appointments are coordinated based on foster keepers availability. Relinquishments are set up based on the location of foster home. Generally speaking the animal, all its supplies, enclosures, etc. must be delivered to either Escondido or Mira Mesa. If you need assistance in transporting your animal and supplies you will need to arrange that on your own. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
