San Diego Chavez Day Community Coalition

San Diego Chavez Day Community Coalition Supportiing and promoting San Diego's Pride in the Chavez Movement! San Diego has a rich history of deep involvement with Cesar E.

Chavez and the United Farm Workers. Many San Diego community leaders receive their training and inspiration from Chavez and his movement. After Cesar's passing San Diego became a leader in celebrating his life and legacy through a variety of grass roots and community based events. Those events included the Barrio Station’s annual Chavez march and parade, later blossomed into events across San Dieg

o and Imperial County. San Diego's leadership was acknowledged for helping to establishing a statewide Holiday through the passing of SB984 in 2001. Additionally the renaming of Crosby Street to Cesar E. Chavez Parkway, the Statue of Chavez at CSUSM, Cesar E. Chavez Elementary, the Cesar E. Chavez Continuing Education Center, and The Barrio Logan Post Office dedicated to Cesar E. Chavez are milestones marking San Diego's respect and involvement in the movement.
