This spring, a shipping container arrived in Peru carrying boxes of nutritious meals and, tucked in alongside them, a playground. Food deliveries reach tables at Children's Care Centers across Peru, from Comas in Lima to Tarapoto in the Amazon and Cusco in the Andes Mountains. The playground will be assembled at one of the CCCs, serving children who lack access to safe, sanitary places to play. As children receive physical care, we pray that the gospel they hear at the CCCs would draw them to the Lord who is the Bread of Life.

Paloma* is twelve years old. Her parents both volunteer at the Children's Care Center in Rafaela, Argentina. This year, she decided to start serving alongside them.

Paloma is quiet, and serving in public was not something that came naturally. But over the past few weeks she has been helping hand out snacks, playing with the younger children, and sitting alongside little ones to help them paint. Her mother shared with the CCC coordinator: “It surprises me because she is shy, but this also helps her to draw closer to the Lord. It enables her to see that this is a way of serving God.”

Pouring a cup of mate, mopping a floor, rocking a smaller child...these may be small tasks, but the shape of a Christian life is often built in such moments. A young girl is discovering that following Jesus means putting others first, and there is joy in emulating Christ this way. *name changed for privacy

What a week! The Paraguay mission team served the children and staff on campus as well as evangelizing in the Tobatí community. As they conducted workshops, led devotions, shared meals, and enjoyed free time with the 33 children in Su Refugio’s care, they brought the good news of salvation in Christ. We’re thankful for this wonderful time in Paraguay! 🇵🇾

Our short-term mission team experienced a wonderful week of serving children and families in Rafaela, Argentina. Some highlights included workshops and activities with parents and students from Su Refugio Argentina Christian School, evangelism in the barrio surrounding the campus, intentional gospel conversations with the children's parents, fellowship with the Argentine staff, and maintenance projects around campus. Last week, Christ Lutheran Church (La Mesa, CA) celebrated an incredible milestone alongside Su Refugio Ministries: one million meals packed for vulnerable children and families in Peru!

Nearly 300 church members gathered for Christ Lutheran’s tenth food pack event, packing the final 100,000 meals needed to cross the one-million-meal mark. What began ten years ago as a simple act of obedience has become a legacy of faithfulness, generosity, and gospel-centered care for vulnerable children and families across South America.

These meals served at the CCCs are a vehicle for the gospel. Each meal helps open the door for trust and deeper relationships with children and families in vulnerable communities. Around tables where nourishing food is served, children also receive discipleship, prayer, encouragement, education, and the truth of God’s Word.

Through faithful partners like Christ Lutheran Church, God continues to nourish not only physical bodies, but hearts and souls through the hope of Christ.

Maria lives in Carabayllo, an impoverished desert community outside of Lima, Peru (pictured). She participates in the women's entrepreneurship program at the Children's Care Center. Her 9-year-old daughter Diana has attended the CCC for Bible lessons, academic support, and meals since 2021. The CCC staff have been spending intentional time at Maria's home, sharing the gospel and ministering to her needs.

Maria lives with her husband, but his alcohol use has caused strife and financial difficulties for their family, and Maria is concerned for the example this is to her daughters. She wants to keep her family together and earnestly hopes for a bright future for the girls. She shares that Diana is responsible in school and enjoys learning about God at the CCC. She expresses gratitude for the staff's visits where they share Scripture with her, and we pray that Maria and other such women would be saved by the gospel and equipped both practically and spiritually at the CCC.
