In 1987, we began this tradition of of cultural upkeep of the Serbian culture via traditional song, dance, and epic folk poetry. Morava has toured worldwide to audiences in countries which include the United Kingdom, Australia, Switzerland, and a variety of countries in the Balkans. The group has a wide collection of dance presentations that remain unique in the art of folk dance. For most of thei
r dances, Morava is the sole owner of the copyright of music and choreography. Between 1991 and 1999 Morava Folklore was choreographed by Dennis Boxell, a master teacher and researcher of Balkan dance and song. Under the direction of Bozana Draškovic, founder and original director of the ensemble, Morava blossomed as a globally recognized, respected, and adored Serbian dance group. In 2005 Morava traveled back to the motherland (Serbia) under the direction of Svetlana Cvetković. In 2008 the group celebrated 20 years of Morava, where alumni joined in a performance for the annual folk festival. Today Morava Folklore continues to receive invitations to festivals worldwide. Under Marija Milasinović’s (Draškovic’s daughter) direction, Morava Ensemble began traveling extensively again, brung back old dances to new audiences, and got more involved in their local community. In addition to performing at festivals, cultural celebrations, and holidays, Morava also performs at Opolo Vineyards every year in Paso Robles, California, for their annual Grape Stomp Festival. Morava Folkore hosts an annual Summer “Folkfest” in which Serbian dance troops from all over the world are invited to come and perform in a professional setting. Morava has most recently hosted professional groups from Serbia (2004), London (2007), and Canada (2008 & 2011).
