We are currently looking at the safety and feasibility of our OPT-IN study and have presented 2 posters showcasing these results.

Here’s why families felt so strongly about OMT as a non-invasive approach to addressing the head shape:
* 100% of parents felt their child was safe during the OMT and 100% were satisfied with the treatment results. Parents consistently described OMT as “gentle,” “effective,” and “incredible.”
* No significant adverse events occurred. Concurrent symptoms were mild, resolved quickly, and were not bothersome to families (94%).
* Incredible secondary benefits that extended far beyond just head shape: improved neck motion (79%), improved sleep (52%), reduced fussiness (41%), and improved feeding (breast and bottle) (41%).

We have seen incredible dedication from our families showing the feasibility of our study: We have 100% compliance among all 55 participants who have completed the study, showing how committed families are to this non-invasive approach (one family even traveled 147 miles round trip!).

This data reinforces OMT as a feasible and valuable option for managing positional plagiocephaly, offering relief, and a whole-body approach.

Are you wondering what it’s like to be a patient in the OPT-IN study? Check out our video here for a behind the scenes look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogafeUdj87Y

You can see Dr. Wolf using OMT, a gentle, non-invasive treatment to address flatness of the head. This is a safe and feasible option to treat plagiocephaly.

Check out our other videos on pediatric OMT here: https://www.youtube.com/

Our previous funding cycle has come to an end, and the next phase of our study now depends on community support. Your contribution—of any size—helps us maintain momentum and continue this important research. We can’t wait to analyze our OPT-IN data and share the exciting results we see on a day to day basis when treating the babies in our study. We have captured the difference a single OMT treatment can make on an infant’s head shape by taking pre- and post-treatment measurements just a few minutes apart! Check out these exciting images (taken 15 minutes apart) to see how much the shape of a head can change from 1 treatment.

It’s a 53% change in head shape from 1 OMT session. Imagine what 8 treatments can do!

We are so excited to do our data analysis and share more, but we need additional community support for this next phase of our research. Your contribution—of any size—helps us maintain momentum and continue this important research.

Today is clinical trials day! We are so thrilled to have been part of the second annual community clinical trial health forum put on by Diverse Research Now (DRN) this past weekend to celebrate this important day. Thank you to DRN for the opportunity to share our OPT-IN research study and the importance of diversity in clinical trials. Dr. Wolf was able to share what osteopathic medicine is with the local community and how it can be an alternative to other treatment options. We loved connecting with community members and healthcare providers and researchers who all have a common goal of supporting research that is representative.

The Osteopathic Center for Children proudly acknowledges our recent presentation of the OPT-IN study at the American Academy of Osteopathy’s RPM (Research Proposal and Mentorship) Grand Rounds at Convocation 2025!

Here we had the opportunity to talk about how our own research design benefited from RPM in 2023 and where we are now two years later. Our Research Coordinator, Jessica Martone, gave this update and also served on the panel of physicians and researchers who reviewed and provided feedback on three research projects. Two of those projects were proposed by osteopathic medical students and one by a pediatric hematology/oncology fellow. The panel of judges selected a winner and this year’s RPM award went to Summer McElwain (OMS-IV at WVSOM) for her cranial strain pattern research proposal. Dr. Martone will be Summer’s mentor and provide support over the next year as Summer refines and carries out her proposed project.

We are honored that we could take part in RPM 2025 and share exciting OPT-IN updates and also support new research projects that are in development. It's inspiring to see our team contributing to important discussions and knowledge shared within the medical community!
