This is a poem I wrote this about a year after my sweet son Jamie passed suddenly in a car crash on 4.24.2002, it will be 24 years since I've held my beautiful boy physically but not a day goes by that I don't hold the memory of him, the love we shared, and the deep sense that there is always someone missing. It is a both/and that will remain until I take my last breath and leave my body to reunite in Spirit with all those that left theirs, many too soon, many suddenly and too young, some over time having left a long and full life. I miss them all, but none as much as my sweet boy Jamie.

Wishing everyone the kind of peace Martin had in his final days knowing that he would give his life to make this world a better place. He was a true hero, & no one else in our history deserves a day more than him. Using our 1st amendment rights to demand our government lives up to the constitution, with all amendments and the Bill of Rights is the most patriotic thing we can do. So celebrate Martin by standing up to injustice every where. Hopeful MLK day.

I went on a walk in the Canyon today with a group of young Azalea Parksters and their parents. I was reminded of all the hikes we did on Cowles mountain, around Chollas Lake and Mission trails. Remembered how you loved nature in a fearless way. Wishing all the while you were there is your 29 y.o. body with your young tots hiking around. The moment was magic, it was tragic it was a whole life time ago and it was in this moment. Missing you then, in the bodies of babies and kids. Missing you even more as an adult son, perhaps with tots of your own. Always left wondering what could have been. Always Missing. You're always missing. Ilove you jamie and I love seeing all the kids of AP out enjoying the beautiful canyon you once roamed.

I know Memorial Day is traditionally thought of as the day to honor service people out in debt and undoubtedly that was the fruit of the holiday created by created by Mother's who are protesting World War 1 hoping that their sons would not have to go and die And later turned into A general memory of all those who have served please work teaching A general memory of all those who have served and while I am truly grateful for all the people that have served not just in the military but in all ways in America and all the jobs that demand sacrifice From social workers to police officers to firemen and school teachers Many professions call for our service but also Memorial Day is more than just about the loss of life and wars some just
some complete uncalled for wars but for those who of us who have lost anybody special to us moral day can be a time to meet remember those loved ones so today on world day weekend the weekend that always commemorates my son who I lost at 5-years-old, It will always be marking both loss The little boy that was 5 years and 11 months old exactly one months shy of his sixth birthday when he passed away and it will be 29 years old this year and I miss both of them I missed the little boy that I didn't get a finished raising and I missed the man that he would be today so I honor all those that have served our country all those who have died for our life I also warn Most deeply for the sun that I didn't get to raise it will never see as an adult.
Memorial Day is traditionally recognized as a day to honor those who have served in the military. Originally, it was established by mothers protesting World War I, hoping their sons would not have to go to war and die. It later became a general remembrance of all who have served. And while I am truly grateful for all the people that have served, I extend that not just in the military but in all ways in jobs, causes, fights, protests, resistance and resources that has demanded sacrifice in order to truly live into our creed that all PEOPLE are created equal and due certain inalienable rights. I believe there are many ways to serve our country and have often recognized that many have sacrificed to build and defend these United States. Many professions that demand sacrifice, such as social workers, police officers, firemen, builders, change agents, politicians, teachers, lawyers and many others that have also sacrificed their lives for the good of the nation and to continue to help us push our democracy to be its best self, and even now when it feels we have so far to go, are tirelessly working.
Memorial Day also serves as a time for individuals to remember loved ones they have lost. On Memorial Day weekend, I commemorated my son’s 29th birth anniversary, as he passed away at the age of five years and 11 months, with friends and family who came out and engaged in manual labor to help clean and beautify his park and release butterflies in his honor and sang him Happy Birthday. And though it never quite fills the hole left in my heart, from missing him for the past 23 years, it does provide the love and comfort I need to make through each day, week, month, year without him. This year marks his 29th birthday years, and 23 years since his passing. So for me Memorial Day will forever be intertwined with that loss. So while reflecting on those who have served our country and died for our lives, I also acknowledge my grief for the loss of my son Jamie. I love you son.
