Access to health care remains out of reach for many families across our region.

Each year, 70,000 people rely on TrueCare to stay healthy and on track, including seniors, agricultural workers and individuals navigating barriers to affordable care.

Recent federal funding cuts put critical services at risk, from primary care to food support and mental health resources.

A $250,000 grant from the San Diego Unity Fund is helping TrueCare sustain these services and continue meeting patient needs.

See how this funding is helping maintain access to care: https://www.sdfoundation.org/news-events/sdf-news/health-care-needs-dont-go-away-when-funding-gets-cut/

The Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank was honored to be asked to provide testimony at the California Assembly Select Committee on CalFresh Enrollment and Nutrition by committee co-chair Assemblymember LaShae Sharp-Collins.

Amy Eilts, Director of Programs, represented the Food Bank and shared insights from our frontline work supporting individuals and families navigating CalFresh access.

The San Diego Food Bank employs CalFresh application assisters and last year alone, helped nearly 600 people obtain benefits. However, we know that more than 100,000 San Diegans are expected to be impacted as a result of HR1 impacts to the CalFresh program.

We were grateful to have the opportunity to highlight ways in which the Food Bank is helping San Diegans obtain or keep their CalFresh benefits, highlight our work with the County of San Diego on this issue, and elevate the importance of state programs like CalFood to help ensure our communities have the necessary food they need to not just survive, but to thrive.

Thank you, co-chairs Assemblymember Mia Bonta and Assemblymember LaShae Sharp-Collins and members of the committee for this important conversation on ways we can work together to protect our communities from hunger.
