Thursday’s flight from Houston is fly or die for many of the 160 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens scheduled to fly to safety in Minnesota.

The World Cup is coming to Houston and when major sporting events attracting tourists from across the world, city officials try to sweep the streets of all stray pets. Houston’s perpetually overcrowded shelters cannot absorb any more intake, let alone mass intake, and when that happens innocent pets pay the price.

These pets lives depend on whether we can fly them out in time.

This Houston flight is critical. Intake is accelerating , and without immediate relief, space disappears fast and they die.

We need your help to keep this mission moving.

Please help us fund these flights, share this post, and stand with the rescue partners fighting every day to save lives under impossible circumstances.

There is a side of rescue most people never see.

Not the happy adoption photos. Not the planes taking off. Not the celebrations after a successful flight.

The side where shelter teams are sitting in meetings trying to figure out where to put puppies that arrived overnight. The side where intake keeps coming through the doors faster than pets are leaving. The side where exhausted people carry the emotional weight of decisions no one ever wants to make.

And the truth is, shelters did not create pet overpopulation.

Unaltered pets did. Lack of access to spay and neuter did. Communities overwhelmed by numbers they cannot sustain did.

That’s why Wings of Rescue exists.

When our Houston partners call and say the situation has become critical, we mobilize. From Texas to California to Florida (highest euthanasia rates), all across North America and the Caribbean, we coordinate lifesaving flights designed to relieve pressure and create opportunity.

What began in 2012 with one small plane and one pilot determined to make a difference has now helped move more than 90,000 pets to safety.

And behind all of it is a remarkably small team.

No foster program. No adoption center. No large volunteer force.

Just people committed to making sure geography does not decide whether a pet lives or dies.

This is what you support when you stand behind Wings of Rescue. Houston, we’re on our way!

Before our 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞-𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟏𝟔𝟎 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐬 takes off, we still have three additional transports scheduled, bringing our remaining transports this month to 𝟏𝟏 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤𝐬.

That means hundreds more pets leaving overcrowded shelters for communities and partners prepared to welcome them.

This photo may look adorable, and it is, but it also represents coordination, urgency, and 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐬 who simply needed more time and a different opportunity.

‼️Texas currently euthanizes more pets than any other state in the nation, with more than 𝟖𝟔,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞.

Shelters are only as strong as the communities they serve, and right now, many are facing the overwhelming combination of limited funding, a lack of space, weak spay-and-neuter laws, and the height of puppy and kitten season. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞.

Next week, Wings of Rescue will depart Houston with a 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞-𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬.

Some will land where adopters are already waiting. Others will be welcomed by partners who have prepared for their arrival long before the plane touches down.

That’s the power of people choosing to work together instead of looking away.

Not because the shelters didn’t care.
Not because the pets were bad.
Not because they were unadoptable.

Many were puppies. Kittens. Purebreds. Friendly dogs who would have slept in someone’s bed if they had been born somewhere else.

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠.

So, for 40 transports this year alone, planes became the line between life and death.

Now May begins with eight more flights already scheduled. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐮𝐩𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧, 𝐓𝐗 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝟓𝟎 𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞!

That number should bother people. 𝐈𝐭 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞. Because no shelter worker should have to choose who gets more time and who does not.

This is what your support interrupts.

When you see pets being loaded onto our planes, you’re not watching a random moment.

You’re watching a plan come together.

These flights are built with shelter partners across North America and the Caribbean. Every pet on board has a destination, a team waiting, and a real path forward.

This is not guesswork. This is coordination, timing, and trust between organizations that know exactly what’s at stake.

And it only works because people choose to be part of it.

Every share. Every donation. Every conversation about spay and neuter keeps this moving.

When you look into the eyes of a pet on our plane, you’re looking at a life that continued because someone decided it should.

Thank you for making that decision matter.

🐾 This week, Wings of Rescue has two flights leaving California.

There’s a reason for that.

The highest levels of pet overpopulation in the country are concentrated in California, Texas, and Florida—where shelters are overwhelmed and thousands of pets are euthanized each year simply because space runs out.

It’s easy to think, “that’s happening there, not here.”

But it doesn’t stay there.

When one region is overwhelmed, it impacts the entire system—resources stretch thinner, rescue networks are pushed to their limits, and the need for coordinated, large-scale solutions grows.

Shelters are only as strong as the communities they serve. And when communities are struggling, pets pay the price.

That’s where Wings of Rescue comes in.

We connect the dots—moving pets from the hardest-hit areas to partners in communities ready to help, creating space, relief, and a real chance at a future.

This work only happens with support.

🐶 When Wings of Rescue flies pets from overcrowded shelters to partners with open space, it sets the stage for moments like this.

We’re not an adoption agency—we’re the bridge that helps create these outcomes.

From the moment she stepped off the plane, Journey showed exactly who she is—happy, playful, and full of life. Her tail never stopped wagging, and her sweet spirit instantly stole hearts.

A true cuddle bug, she found what every pet deserves—a home filled with love, safety, and belonging.

And just like that…
✨ Journey’s story changed ✨

To her adopters, thank you for choosing her and giving her the life she’s always deserved. To our incredible receiving partners at Happily Ever After Rescue, Inc., we could not be more proud of the work you do.

These are the moments that make it all worth it.

🗓️ In just a few days, our 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧.

Not every pet gets a chance.

·Some aren’t small enough.
·Some are too big.
·Some aren’t fluffy and cute.
·Some aren’t the “right” breed.
·Some don’t get noticed in time.
·Some are simply born into the wrong place at the wrong moment—𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐧𝐨 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭.

That's the part that 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮.

Wings of Rescue 𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞.

We are completely donor-funded. No city. No county. No state funding.
Every flight happens because people decide these lives are worth showing up for.

In a time when so much feels uncertain, 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠.

Thank you for being the reason these stories don’t end walking down a cold hallway, but rather to families.

This little tail wagging on the belt loader waiting to board our plane says everything.

Behind every flight is a mix of emotions—frustration in overcrowded shelters, deep love from the teams caring for these pets, and undeniable hope and excitement from the partners ready to receive them.

It’s intense. It’s real. And 𝐦𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.
That tail wag you see is hope.
