❤️Thank you Kari! ❤️

Pictured: Jr volunteer William and his grandmother Cherie (our Supplies Manager) who picked up and put together our adoption kits!

We want to wholeheartedly thank Kari who responded to our “FurKids Need Blankets” plea — and with help from her amazing blanketers, made and sent many no-sew blankets. Wow!

We were SO excited to open those boxes! Jr volunteer William and his grandmother Cherie (our Supplies Manager) put together adoption kits for all incoming FurKids. They, and we, know how MUCH our pups adore their blankets!

Hats off to Kari and her team. You have made a difference!

❤️We hope others in our community will do what Kari has done! It’s a fun activity for both adults and kids of all ages… and we’d love to have your blankets too! The need is still there and we thank you in advance!

Little Nicky was rescued on his Euth Day from the San Bernardino shelter. He saw the BFK Vet today for his skin.

Bloodwork was done and we are awaiting results. Nicky’s appointment took three hours as his patient foster mom Cindy and some very patient vet techs removed a RECORD 53 ticks from his 16 pound body!!!

This little, young (15 months old according to our vet) boy must have been on the street and in the fields for some amount of time!

After a round of antibiotics Nicky will need to be neutered and is cryptorchid (undescended testicles) so it will be a more involved surgery.

And through all the poking, prodding, pinching and pulling

Nicky was a trooper! The vet staff agrees that he is a very special pup!

Foster Found!

URGENT FOSTER HOME NEEDED IN CALIFORNIA
Medical deadline: August 23 at 2:00 PM
Contact if you can assist: [email protected]

Calling all former Bichon FurKids fosters—and anyone who has considered becoming a foster!

We desperately need a foster home for this sweet 2-year-old, 15-pound boy currently at the San Bernardino shelter. We have no open foster homes, and we cannot save him without somewhere safe for him to go.

He arrived to the shelter severely matted (with burrs, foxtails, and plants in his hair!), with irritated skin, wounds and a foxtail embedded between his toes. The foxtail was removed, and he is receiving antibiotics and pain medication.

Despite everything he has been through, look at that darling face!

His foster home must be located in California. Whether you have fostered for us before or would like to become a first-time foster, please reach out immediately.

Contact Marti via email: [email protected]

New fosters are required to fill out an app to be considered...

It is easier to rescue dogs on death row when we already have fosters waiting for their next FurKid. That is rare, of course. We would consider it a luxury. Dogs would exit shelters faster saving their life and the life of a dog that can take the empty spot!

Please contact us if interested or share this post with someone who may be able to help. A foster home will save his life.

“Supplies:
Good pair of cloth scissors
Tape measure or ruler
Two 1-yard lengths of coordinating fleece 4"x4" cardboard template marked with 1" intervals

Directions:
Please read all directions before starting your blanket.
1. Lay out fleece wrong sides together (if "wrong"sides are evident).
2. Match up edges.
3. Pin together to hold while you knot.
4. Cut off rough edges.
5. Cut 4"x4" square out of each corner:
6. Make 4" deep cuts at 1" intervals around all 4 sides.
7. Start in one corner - Tie overhand knot close to blanket edge - Use one strip from top fleece, one from bottom fleece - Tie second knot - Make sure your knot is tight.
8. Knot EVERY OTHER pair of strips until you are all around the blanket one time.
9. Turn blanket over - Knot the same way until you have tied all your knots.

Hints:
Use your template as a guide to keep cuts even and equally deep.
Keep your knot tie tension steady while tying your knots so you don't overstretch your fleece.

Snug knots will hold well through washing/drying.

This is actually a repost from two months ago, unfortunately no blankets were donated. We are about out of blankets now. If you have any appropriate fleece for dog "no sew" blankets let us know and let's see if we can get it to the right people. If you would like to contribute for us to purchase fleece for volunteers and their families to make blankets I will attach a donate button to this post for you. It takes about a yard (double fold expands to 60 inches which gives 2 layers) for each blanket.
Bichon Bash is in October- if you plan to attend and want to bring your blankets with you that is also a possibility.

WHY are these blankets so important? As someone who has picked up hundreds of dogs for various rescues and likely around 50 just for BFK- these scared, dirty, sometimes sick dogs leave the shelter to the unknown. They get a foster family and a blanket and the other usual supplies such as collar, leash, tag... I haven't seen any dog be bummed that they got their very own made with love soft clean blanket and that blanket will go with them when they move on to their permanent home, which is another transition. I am a firm believer that blankets make it better.

Below is the standard information that is posted in a blanket plea... please message us or email [email protected] with any questions.

HELP US BLANKET THE FURKIDS!
We have an urgent need for no-sew fleece blankets for the dogs of Bichon FurKids Rescue.

Every dog that enters our rescue receives an adoption kit that includes a bed, blanket, toys, collar, leash, bowl, treats, and other essentials. For many of these little dogs, their blanket becomes a source of comfort and security as they adjust to foster care and then move on to their forever homes.

Unfortunately, after a busy year of adoptions and rescues, our blanket supply is now almost completely depleted.
The good news? These blankets are easy to make, require no sewing, and are a wonderful group project for:
🐾 Families
🐾 Children and grandchildren
🐾 Scout troops
🐾 School groups
🐾 Church groups
🐾 Senior centers
🐾 Community service projects
🐾 Anyone who loves Dogs

Also a good solo project of course! An easy project to do while watching TV!

We need all kinds as we are at the literal end of our blanket supply for the first time in the 14 years as your Facebook editor...

💗 Girly patterns
🔵 Cute boy prints
🌸 Floral prints
🦋 Bright colors
🌈 Fun prints

**We also welcome donations of new fleece fabric suitable for dog blankets if you would rather donate materials from your stock than make blankets yourself.

Each blanket is made from two 1-yard pieces of coordinating fleece and tied together with simple knots. We have complete instructions available and are happy to email them to anyone interested.

Please send us photos of your blanket-making projects! We love recognizing the wonderful people who help our FurKids.

❤️ A soft blanket may seem like a small thing, but for a frightened rescue dog, it can provide comfort, security, and a sense of home when they need it most.
Thank you for helping us wrap our FurKids in love.
